When House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was not busy condemning our campaign in Iraq and praising anti-American agitators ("I salute those in the streets who are protesting the war."), she was busy giving credit "in large measure" for the quick victory in Iraq to -- with a straight face -- Bill Clinton. She did not mention that Bill Clinton, who loathed the military, "downsized" military readiness by 700,000 active-duty and 293,000 reserve troops, including eight Army divisions, 20 Air Force and Navy air wings, 232 strategic bombers, 19 strategic ballistic missile submarines, four aircraft carriers, 121 surface combat ships and submarines, not to mention all the logistical assets needed to sustain these forces.

I.D. Cards for Illegal Immigrants? Tell Congress NO!

ISSUE:  Since they haven't been able to get amnesty for illegal aliens (yet), the Mexican government is trying a new tactic: give them Mexican I.D. cards, and get the U.S. to accept those cards as "proper identification" in order to  receive social services and related privileges usually
reserved for legal citizens.

And now, ultra-liberal U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has endorsed a pilot program allowing a federal building in San Francisco to accept the Matricula Consular (identification cards issued by the Mexican Consulate) as a legitimate form of identification for visitors. That's right: I.D. cards for illegal immigrants.

According to recent newspaper accounts, Rep. Pelosi supports a plan to make the Phillip Burton Federal Building in San Francisco a much more unsafe facility by allowing illegal aliens entrance to the building after showing an identity card provided by a foreign government. These cards are being distributed by Mexican Consular officials throughout the United States in the hope that cities and states will accept them as proper I.D. One man arrested in California was carrying three cards with different names.

The Phillip Burton Federal Building in San Francisco is the first of its type in the country to accept Mexican Consulate identification cards. The building began accepting the cards on Wednesday, January 8, 2003, as part of a four-month trial program, which will mainly serve illegal immigrants who are ineligible for U.S. identification.

What happens if the "trial program" is "successful"? You got it -- this program will be forcibly instituted in government buildings throughout the United States, giving supporters of amnesty for illegal immigrants more firepower to push their agenda through.

This MUST be stopped.

ACTION ITEM:  U.S. Representative Tom Tancredo (R-CO), chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus, is outraged, and for good reason.  "It is extremely disconcerting to see agents of a foreign country actively trying to lobby American elected officials to aid and abet lawbreakers, but it is even more infuriating when cities and members of Congress become co-conspirators," said Tancredo.

According to the Washington Times, "cardholders are widely recognized to be in the United States illegally" because they otherwise would be able to obtain state-issued cards, such as driver's licenses. "Even New York State and New York City, believe it or not, have decided to not accept the Matricula Consular cards because of the dangerous situation that puts people in," Rep. Tancredo said.

We need to make sure this doesn't spread and lead to a successful push for "amnesty" for illegal immigrants. Legislation is being prepared by Rep. Tancredo right now that will put a STOP to Rep. Pelosi's liberal nonsense -- and conservatives across the nation need to demand that Congress pass that legislation IMMEDIATELY!
