Mary Cheney's new world May 22, 2006 - Anyone still harboring doubts that we need a Federal Marriage Amendment should read what Mary Cheney has to say about it in her new book. No, you don't have to buy it. A five-minute skimming session in the bookstore is all it will take....I don't know what the president's wife, Laura Bush, had for breakfast the other day when she suggested that the marriage amendment should be played down politically. Her husband was elected by deeply concerned citizens for whom this is critically important.

  • Today, nearly one-third of all American children are born outside marriage. That translates to one out-of-wedlock birth every 35 seconds. Of those born within marriage, a great many will experience their parents’ divorce before they reach age 18. More than half of the nation's chil­dren will spend all or part of their childhood in never-formed or broken families.
  • In 1960, just 5.3 percent of children were born outside marriage, compared with 33.2 percent in 2000. (See charts at http://www.heritage.org/Research/Features/Marriage/decline.cfm.)

Action

Have we gone so far as to neglect and avoid the basis of how "unalienable Rights" are to be "entitled?" Are "the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God" no longer the FOUNDATION which our FOUNDERS so carefully established in the very first statement of America's FOUNDING document, the Declaration of Independence? Will we continue to  ignore this sure foundation and allow our house to be moved off this ROCK and placed on sand? He that has ears to hear, let him hear.
