Upfront - Theodore Roosevelt indeed wrote the best words on this subject, but not in 1907 while he was still President of the United States. The passages were culled from a letter he wrote to the president of the American Defense Society on January 3, 1919, three days before Roosevelt died. "Americanization" was a favorite theme of Roosevelt's during his later years, when he railed repeatedly against "hyphenated Americans" and the prospect of a nation "brought to ruins" by a "tangle of squabbling nationalities." He advocated the compulsory learning of English by every naturalized citizen. "Every immigrant who comes here should be required within five years to learn English or to leave the country," he said in a statement to the Kansas City Star in 1918. "English should be the only language taught or used in the public schools." He also insisted, on more than one occasion, that America has no room for what he called "fifty-fifty allegiance." In a speech made in 1917 he said, "It is our boast that we admit the immigrant to full fellowship and equality with the native-born. In return we demand that he shall share our undivided allegiance to the one flag which floats over all of us." LaptopAmerica.net

Take Action - (Alerts, Action, Petitions)

The Hate Crimes Act and the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) will be coming up for consideration in Congress soon. There's still time to make your voice heard on these bills, so that's why we're asking you to sign this petition and forward this e-mail to your family and friends, so they, too, can sign the Hate Crimes/ENDA petition.

Petition: Tell Congress You Oppose Their Amnesty Bills! (Grassfire.org) Ted Kennedy invited the American Civil Liberties Union, the National Immigration Law Center, the National Council of La Raza, the Service Employees International Union, the Chamber of Commerce and the Essential Worker Immigration Coalition to help him craft his comprehensive immigration-reform bill. Completely ignored in this process are American citizens! Senator Kennedy has replaced "WE the people" with special interest lobbyists.

"Hate" Crimes?  (Selective Compliance)

Update: The “Meehan-Shays Amendment” – the "Grassroots Gag Bill" - was killed Thursday in the House Judiciary Committee. This is a victory made possible by citizens who made their voices heard. The “Meehan-Shays Amendment” was possibly the most dangerous bill introduced yet in the 110th Congress because it would have severely limited free-speech rights. More than 130,000 petitions were signed, and delivered to the Democratic House Judiciary Committee members.

War on Terror - (Radical Islam?)

The moral basis for the war on terror Alan Keyes (RenewAmerica.us) For people encouraged to think of themselves as consumers and couch potatoes, this may be a daunting prospect.

AmericanMinute.com for May 21st: The American Red Cross was organized MAY 21, 1881, by Clara Barton, a schoolteacher who had moved to Washington at the outbreak of the Civil War. She distributed relief supplies to wounded soldiers and, at the request of President Lincoln, aided in searching for missing men. Clara Barton helped in hospitals in Cuba during the Spanish-American War and in Europe during the Franco-German war, working with Henri Dunant, founder of the International Red Cross. On May 18, 1918, at the opening of the Second Red Cross Drive in New York City, President Woodrow Wilson recognized those in this great service, stating: "Being members of the American Red Cross...a great fraternity and fellowship which extends all over the world...this cross which these ladies bore here today is an emblem of Christianity itself...When you think of this, you realize how the people of the United States are being drawn together into a great intimate family whose heart is being used for the service of the soldiers not only, but for the long night of suffering and terror, in order that they and men everywhere may see the dawn of a day of righteousness and justice and peace." (ETH note: Excluding couch potatoes.)

Election 2008 - (Voting Resources)

Sorry Dr. Dobson, But There Is A Season, Marie Jon (The Conservative Voice)

Falwell gone, evangelical movement alive and well Star Parker (Townhall.com) When we read that most Americans are unhappy about the direction of the country, that candidates of both parties express concern about a "coarsening" of our culture, that people are sick of foulmouthed shock jocks and the violent nihilism of rap, there's a message. That message is that Falwell helped point this country in a direction of decency in which it needs, and wants, to go.

MassResistance.org - View the photos (and video): Homosexual "Youth Pride" event in downtown Boston was worse than you could imagine.  Your state government at work. (No wonder the Governor wouldn't be there!)

"Love, simply love. Love, simply love."  That's the message that was pumped over the loudspeakers at the homosexual lobby's annual "Youth Pride" Day, May 12. And that was just the beginning.

The annual "Youth Pride" event is a kind of "meet and greet" for the homosexual "Gay Straight Alliance" clubs in high schools (and middle schools) across Massachusetts. It's where the adult activists bring all the kids to one place for an entire day each year. They mingle with all kinds of very weird adults, many apparently quite disturbed.  As in past years, it started with speeches and a carnival of sorts at noon. Then a parade of the kids and adults through the streets of Boston. Later, they all went to the "transgender prom" in the main interior of Boston City Hall, compliments of Mayor Menino.

It's pretty ghastly to look at. To say this was a sex offender's candy store is not an exaggeration. This year there were more weird adults mingling everywhere -- lots of them official guests of the organizers.  The "transgender" element was everywhere -- cross-dressing men and women trying to become men. And you could tell that many of the kids were very confused and vulnerable. Kids were encouraged to act out their "gayness" and feel "safe" doing it.

Gov. Deval Patrick, a public supporter of the homosexual movement in Massachusetts, declined to attend this event because of its reputation for depraved activity with children. That turned out to be a good choice for him (tho not for the kids).

But official state support was everywhere. The Governor released an official state proclamation, which was read over the loudspeakers. The new head of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (a man "married" to another man) gave a speech. The police were there for "security" and cleared the streets for the parade. And it was organized by the new super-charged "Massachusetts Commission on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Youth" created by the Legislature last year.

Different rules. A grandfather was immediately stopped by two "security" guys and told he couldn't take pictures (he ignored them). A photographer for the homosexual newspaper "Bay Windows" gets to shoot away at anything!

Take a look for yourself at our report!

Pelosi Working to Stop Massachusetts Marriage Vote (Family Research Council) Since Pelosi's conversations with the local House Speaker and Senate President began, as many as three votes in support of the amendment have vanished. Under Massachusetts law, at least 50 votes (25 percent of the legislature) are needed to put the issue on the ballot, and people on the ground suspect their numbers are down to 53.

Take the Conservative Challenge Wynton Hall (Townhall.com) In their new book, Landmark Speeches of the American Conservative Movement, Wynton Hall and Peter Schweizer, research fellows at the Hoover Institution, have compiled thirteen speeches from prominent conservative figures to capture the modern American conservative movement. The collection of speeches illustrates the core fundamental values and principles resonating through the conservative movement today. Before reading the book, however, take the conservative challenge quiz and test your knowledge of landmark speeches of the American conservative movement.

Immigration & English (Immigration & English)

Bush support sinks on immigration plan WASHINGTON (UPI) -- (GOPUSA.com)  A new poll says U.S. President George Bush's job approval ratings dropped to an all-time low after he announced support for a new immigration plan.

Tens of Thousands of Criminal Aliens Invade US; The Immigration Reform Lie (The Conservative Voice) It's old news that Presidente Vicente Fox exported Mexico's poorest citizens into the United States for a number of reasons: It relieved him of the responsibility of providing social and healthcare services for them; it provides his country's economy with an influx of US cash when these illegal workers send money the earn in the US back home; and it defuses problems with far-left groups who are usually successful in using the poor to advance their political agenda. ...But there is another benefit to the exportation of Mexicans into the US -- Mexico saves money on his criminal justice system by exporting his criminal population to the United States. Thus, Mexico's crime problem becomes our crime problem; his prison problem becomes our prison problem.

Mayor wins both GOP, Democrat primaries City leader earns support with launch of war on illegal alien (World Net Daily)  Louis J. Barletta, the mayor of Hazleton, Pa. who launched a war on the impact of illegal aliens in his city has won not only the GOP nomination for mayor, which he was seeking, but the Democratic nomination by virtue of 1,200 write-in votes. The mayor pushed through legislation to evict illegal aliens and force employers to stop hiring them.

Voter Fraud and Felonies Brought by Lawless Illegal Immigrants (Christian Newswire) Biblical Family Advocates recently posted a press release, regarding the illegal immigration movement that feels entitled to come to America illegally without regard for the laws of America, creating a culture of lawlessness which teaches their children to disobey God's commandments. More evidence of this lawless culture are seen in an article, " EXCLUSIVE: Hundreds of Illegal's Have Registered to Vote in Bexar County", which reveals widespread voter fraud in the hundreds, committed by illegal aliens. One only has to wonder how prevalent this practice is in other major cities around America, especially in the light of a coming Presidential election.

Duncan Hunter Opposes Immigration Deal  (As he did in 1986) - (NewsMax)  Hunter said the new immigration deal rewards lawbreakers and does little to stem the flow of illegals across U.S. borders. "This Senate bill is bad for Americans, bad for our workers, bad for law enforcement and, most importantly, bad for national security," Hunter said.

Calvin Coolidge - "Restricted immigration is not an offensive but purely a defensive action. It is not adopted in criticism of others in the slightest degree, but solely for the purpose of protecting ourselves. We cast no aspersions on any race or creed, but we must remember that every object of our institutions of society and government will fail unless America be kept American. American institutions rest solely on good citizenship. They were created by people who had a background of self-government. New arrivals should be limited to our capacity to absorb them into the ranks of good citizenship. America must be kept American. For this purpose, it is necessary to continue a policy of restricted immigration. It would lie well to make such immigration of a selective nature with some inspection at the source, and based either on a prior census or upon the record of naturalization. Either method would insure the admission of those with the largest capacity and best intention of becoming citizens. I am convinced that our present economic and social conditions warrant a limitation of those to be admitted. We should find additional safety in a law requiring the immediate registration of all aliens. Those who do not want to be partakers of the American spirit ought not to settle in America."

John F. Kennedy - "Today, we need a nation of Minutemen, citizens who are not only prepared to take arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as the basic purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom."

America's Christian Heritage (America's Christian Heritage)

"He is the best friend of American liberty who is most sincere and active in promoting true and undefiled religion and who sets Himself with the greatest firmness to bear down profanity and immorality of every kind...God grant that in America true religion and civil liberty may be inseparable and that the unjust attempts to destroy the one, may in the issue tend to the support and establishment of both." John Witherspoon, Signer of the Declaration of Independence, Member of the Continental Congress, President of Princeton College and Pastor. Spoken in a sermon delivered May 17, 1776.

"Republics are created by the virtue, public spirit, and intelligence of the citizens. They fall, when the wise are banished from the public councils, because they dare to be honest, and the profligate are rewarded, because they flatter the people, in order to betray them." Joseph Story
