Upfront - Memorial Day - Remember, Honor, and Let not their sacrifice be in vain.
"Heroes arent athletes who set new sports records or Hollywood actors who make daring films, or politicians who make bold promises. Heroes are people who place themselves at risk for the benefit of others. America enjoys freedom today because true heroes the men and women of the United States Armed Forces our courageous soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and Guardsmen sacrifice their tomorrows for us." LtCol Oliver L. North, USMC (Ret.) Founder and Honorary Chairman FREEDOM ALLIANCE
"The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional as to how they perceive the veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their Nation." George Washington
"It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived." General George S. Patton
"[L]et us solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly, on the seas, in the air, and on foreign shores, to preserve our heritage of freedom, and let us re-consecrate ourselves to the task of promoting an enduring peace so that their efforts shall not have been in vain." Dwight Eisenhower
"The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war." Douglas MacArthur
" I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not sail fast; for I intend to go in harm's way." John Paul Jones
"Contemplate the mangled bodies of your countrymen, and then say, 'What should be the reward of such sacrifices?' ... If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom...crouch down and lick the hands, which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!" Samuel Adams

Is lax border control, illegal immigration & amnesty, "press one to continue in English," and all the accompanying social and economic impact, defy the American way of life which all American military men and women served and sacrificed for throughout our Nation's history?
Take Action - (Alerts, Action, Petitions)
Grassfire Petition demanding the media tell the truth about the immigration
debate. The American people are being deceived by the media regarding the
illegal immigration crisis, and we must have the truth. Even though 80 percent
of Americans are saying "no" to amnesty, the media is ignoring this
fact--choosing instead to justify the plight of illegals--ignoring the fact
that they are
breaking our laws. The media is pushing a destructive agenda that is counter
to what the vast majority of Americans believe about immigration.
Immigration & English (Immigration & English)
"None can love freedom heartily, but good men; the rest love not freedom, but license, which never hath more scope than under tyrants." John Milton (1608-1674) English Poet, Scholar, Writer, Patriot
Today, all too many Americans feel like aliens in our own countrystrangers in a strange land... Theyre the second and third-generation Americanswhose ancestors came here legally, and learned our language, identified with our history and heritage, and were proud and grateful to call themselves Americanswho are now asked to press one if they wish to continue in English. Don Feder

Immigration Bill Breakdown Ericka Andersen (HumanEvents.com) Broken down, the immigration bill will cost legal, taxpaying Americans an average of $30,160 per immigrant family (headed by those without high school diplomas) to house, health, feed, educate, protect, and transport. There are at least 9.3 million adults that benefit from the bill. Bill sponsors and supporters refuse to label it amnesty, but those at the press conference argued thats exactly what it is.
The Amnesty Fraud Thomas Sowell (Townhall.com) Nothing is more common than political "solutions" to immediate problems which create much bigger problems down the road. The current immigration bill in the Senate is a classic example.
The Amnesty Fraud: Part II Thomas Sowell (Townhall.com) Every aspect of the current immigration bill, and of the arguments made for it, has Fraud written all over it.
The Amnesty Fraud: Part III Thomas Sowell (Townhall.com) Whose problem is the immigration bill in Congress supposed to solve? The country's problem with dangerously porous borders? The illegal immigrants' problem? Or politicians' problems?
Importing a Slave Class By Ann Coulter (HumansEvents.com) I'm astounded that debate has sunk so low that I need to type the following words, but: No law is ever enforced 100%. We can't catch all rapists, so why not grant amnesty to rapists? Surely no one wants thousands of rapists living in the shadows! ...If the 12-million figure is an extrapolation based on the number of illegal immigrants in public schools or emergency rooms and well-manicured lawns in Brentwood, then shouldn't we be looking for them at schools and hospitals and well-manicured lawns in Brentwood?
Activist says Senate amnesty bill would further damage nation's economy, identity (OneNewsNow.com) An opponent of illegal immigration says the so-called "comprehensive immigration reform" bill in the Senate would have a devastating effect on the country. Ron DeJong of Grassfire.org says the bill developed by the White House and a bipartisan group of senators, including Ted Kennedy (D-Massachusetts) and John McCain (R-Arizona), is "bogus and offensive to American citizens."
An
Immigration Shipwreck in Sight Newt Gingrich (HumanEvents.com) 75 Reasons to Oppose
the New Immigration Bill - When the FBI arrested six terrorists in New
Jersey two weeks ago it turned out that three of them had been in the U.S.
illegally for at least TWENTY years. These three had crossed our unprotected
border and had been living in New Jersey. But here's the even more outrageous part: The
police had filed 75 (SEVENTY-FIVE!)
charges against them, including drug possession and possession of drug
paraphernalia. In
75 interactions, the police never once learned that these three people
were here illegally. The government failed twice: First, by
failing to secure the border, and second, by failing to determine that these
people were here illegally. The result was that more than five years after
9/11 we were saved from a mass killing at Fort Dix only because of the
patriotism and courage of a clerk at an electronics store. Compare the 75 charges made against the
would-be Fort Dix terrorists with how we rounded up German spies in World War
II. In June 1942, it took a total of 15 days to track down and arrest eight
German spies who landed in Florida and New York from submarines. We executed
six of them and gave one life in prison and the other thirty years. We were
serious about winning that war. Go
here for a more detailed comparison and a list of the 75 charges against
the Fort Dix terrorists. Faced with this level of failure of
bureaucracy, how could anyone believe for a minute that this new immigration
bill will work? The fact is it can't and it won't. It will rely on the same
failed bureaucracy and produce more years of failure.
If We Build It They Won't Come by Duncan Hunter History proves that border fences work and the Bush Administration must adhere to their obligation by law to build one. ...Why is reinforced border infrastructure necessary? In 2005, 155,000 foreign nationals from countries other than Mexico were apprehended attempting to cross our land border with Mexico. Alarmingly, many of these individuals originated from countries of national security concern, including Syria, Iran, Lebanon and Yemen, and likely represent only a fraction of those who successfully entered our country without the knowledge of border security officials or the consent of our government.

(BCN.com) "Hello media, do you know you indirectly kill American soldiers every day? You inspire and report the enemy's objective every day. You are the enemy's greatest weapon. The enemy cannot beat us on the battlefield so all he does is try to wreak enough havoc and have you report it every day. With you and the enemy using each other, you continually break the will of the American public and American government." (The DesMoines Register)

A guest speaker at an assembly at Boulder High School in Colorado has told students as young as 14 to go have sex and use drugs, prompting school officials to say they will investigate. The instructions came from Joel Becker, an associate clinical professor of psychology at the University of California at Los Angeles. "Hate" Crimes? (Selective Compliance)
FYI
- Response from Massachusetts
Representative John W. Olver - Thank you for contacting me with your opposition to H.R.
1592, the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007. I regret
that we disagree on this issue.
Hate crimes are crimes in which the offender intentionally targets another
person or their property on the basis of race, color, religion, national
origin, ethnicity, gender, disability or sexual orientation. Under current
federal law, hate crimes are not considered separate and distinct offenses. I
believe that federal authority should be expanded to exercise greater
authority over cases where crimes are committed as a result of a particular
bias.
It may interest you to know that I am an original cosponsor of H.R. 1592, the
Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act. H.R. 1592 would authorize
the Attorney General to provide assistance in the criminal investigation or
prosecution of any prejudice-motivated crime based on the actual or perceived
race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender
identity or disability of the victim. Priority would be given to cases in
rural areas and those involving multi-state offenders. I voted for H.R. 1592
and it passed the House of Representatives on May 3, 2007 by a vote of 237 to
180. Currently, this legislation is awaiting action by the Senate.
While I respect your opposition to this legislation, I believe that criminals
who commit acts of violence motivated by prejudice of any kind should be
prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Hate crimes are an affront to all
Americans because they promote intolerance and undercut the goal of creating a
unified America that celebrates its diversity.
Again, thank you for contacting me. Please feel free to contact me again if
you have further questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
John W. Olver

Taxation without virtuous representation (Taxes & Economy)
2010 Tax Hikes: A Ticking Time Bomb (CFIF.org) An economic time bomb is ticking, but the 2008 presidential candidates and media pundits are paying shamefully little attention. Last week, both the Senate and House of Representatives approved the majority Democrats' budget proposal, which contains over $200 billion in tax hikes, the largest in American history. Under their budget, this decade's astoundingly successful tax cuts will be allowed to expire in 2010, at which time rates will surge to recession-era levels as Congress stands by and watches.
