Kennedy/Smith vs. the Constitution (FRC.org) Yesterday (July 11), in close alliance with the Human Rights Campaign, Senators Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) and Gordon Smith (R-Ore.) filed their "hate crimes" legislation for consideration as an amendment to the Department of Defense reauthorization that is currently being debated in the U.S. Senate. The "hate crimes" amendment has numerous problems that should raise concerns for all Americans. First off this bill would usurp the jurisdiction of state and local governments and would federalize each and every state and local crime of violence, so long as there exists the possibility that the crime was motivated by "hate," as defined under this bill. Secondly this bill attacks religious liberty. Current federal law allows an individual to be prosecuted as an "accessory" to a crime, or if the individual somehow "incited" violence. Thus, if a preacher were to denounce the act of homosexuality as a sin and someone who heard him committed a violent crime towards a homosexual it is plausible that the pastor could be charged with inciting violence or as an accessory to the crime. Lastly, but far from least, the concept of "hate crimes" destroys the principle that all men are created equal, as stated in the Declaration of Independence. MassResistance.org - Catholic activist Larry Cirignano to stand trial on civil rights charges from pro-gay demonstrator! Judge denies motion to dismiss charges, issues outrageous ruling. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is charging Larry Cirignano with a "civil rights" violation - as well as assault and battery.
This is a horrible perversion of justice reminiscent of the David Parker ruling. Right and wrong, and even common sense, are tossed aside. In Worcester District Court Friday, Judge David Ricciardone rejected the motion by Catholic activist Larry Cirignano's lawyers to drop the "civil rights" charges against him in connection with last December's pro-marriage rally on December 16. On December 16, 2006, Larry was helping run a peaceful pro-marriage rally on the steps of the Worcester City Hall. Larry's group had a permit to be there. As they started, dozens of homosexual activists approached and began to disrupt the event, many screaming vulgar epithets. The police attempted to keep the homosexual activists to the side. But one of them, Sarah Loy (also a member of the ACLU Board of Directors) broke through the crowd and stood in front of the podium, waving a pro-homosexual sign and chanting and shouting. According to several witnesses, Larry led her to the side and walked away. Then Loy dived to the ground and claimed that Larry had violently pushed her down! The next thing Larry knew, he was in court charged with assault and battery, and a civil rights violation.

On June 28, Larry's lawyers moved to dismiss the civil rights charge. Today, the judge rejected that motion. Judge David Ricciardone's ruling today is unbelievably absurd. Either he didn't understand what actually happened, or he has no understanding of constitutional law.
"The state may not require organizers of a rally to include opposing groups as marchers in its parade, but it just as certainly can not prohibit the opposing groups from holding signs along the intended route. In holding her sign at the rally here, the complainant was simply expressing a view contrary to that being generally supported. This is speech which is clearly and unassailably protected by the First and Fourteenth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution and by the Massachusetts Bill of Rights. To conclude otherwise would allow the group that arrives at the city licensing office first to censor the free expression of speech in a particular area of the city at any given time. This is an unsupportable proposition under constitutional law."

The judge is arguing that Loy
was simply "along the intended route" of a parade, rather than breaking
through the crowd and standing in front of the podium. He is also saying that
a permit to hold a rally at a particular place does not imply that the
organizers have the right to control the message at their own event! The man
is out of his mind. He is not describing the United States of America.
But there's more. Why is the Commonwealth of Massachusetts pressing these
ridiculous charges against Larry? Whose of agenda is he pushing? That question
NEEDS to be asked to Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early, Jr. Something
is very, very wrong here.
TAKE ACTION at this outrage. He is using your government's power to push this
politically motivated prosecution. Larry could lose his license to practice
law and go to jail.

It is not God who hinders the healing of our land. Rather it is our apathy, our own unbelief, that keeps us from grasping the potential offered in the Gospel of Christ! Do not marvel when I say entire cities can be saved. The Scripture tells us (in Isaiah 60:1-3) that nations will come to our light and kings to the brightness of our rising!
All We Lack is Christlikeness!
"He then began to denounce the cities in which most of His miracles were done, because they did not repent" (Matthew 11:20). Jesus has a word to say, not only to us as individuals, but to entire cities as well. In anger He rebuked Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum (Matthew 11:21); with tears, He cried out to Jerusalem (Luke 13:34). If Jesus expected cities to repent in the first century, He expects cities today to repent as well.
It was in this very context of reproving cities, however, that Jesus made a statement which unveiled the scope of God's redemptive power. Listen to His rebuke, but also to its hidden promise. He said, "For if the miracles had occurred in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes" (Matthew 11:21).
Tyre and Sidon were Gentile cities known for their debauchery and sin. Yet, Jesus said that His life, revealed in power, can bring even the vilest of cities, places which ought to be destroyed, to "sackcloth and ashes." The strategy, therefore, to win our cities is for the Church to reveal Christ's life in power. Yes, the revelation of Christ in us as individuals, and the power of Christ displayed corporately through us, can turn our worst cities back toward God!
Today, many cities are ripe for revival. What hinders the turning of the people's hearts? Part of the answer lies with the Church, with our sins of self-righteousness, indifference, and unbelief. The Lord said if His people would humble themselves and pray, seek His face and turn from evil, He would then heal their land (see 2 Chronicles 7:14). The future does not belong to the world; it belongs to the transformed Church. Indeed, let us never forget: God "desires all men to be saved" (1 Timothy 2:4). With this in mind, Paul taught that entreaties and prayers should be made on behalf of all men, "for kings and all who are in authority" (1 Timothy 2:1-4). The sacrifice of Christ provides for the salvation of all men. Heaven waits only for the Church to act.
One may say, "But, that was then. Our cities are worse. They are beyond redemption." Not so. Jesus continued His rebuke of cities, saying, "If the miracles had occurred in Sodom which occurred in you, it would have remained to this day" (Matthew 11:23). Amazingly, when Christ is manifested in power, Jesus said even Sodom could find repentance!
I have heard many ministers compare Los Angeles or New York to Sodom. Good. These cities have seen hell, now let the Church show them Heaven. They need to see Jesus revealed in His Church. The promise of Christ is that even Sodom could repent in the atmosphere and revelation of Christ's power. If there is hope for Sodom, there is hope for your city as well!

Holsinger Changes His Tune (FRC.org) When Dr. James Holsinger's name first appeared as a nominee for the mostly ceremonial position of Surgeon General alarm bells immediately went off. I was reminded he once testified in favor of cloning and human embryonic stem cell experimentation when he was the chancellor of the University of Kentucky's Medical Center. When we asked about his previous testimony we were told he has since changed his mind on the stem cell issue - yet we were offered no confirmation of this evolution. This lack of conviction either way had me worried how he would handle Congressional questioning of a paper he had written over a decade ago on the very real health dangers of a homosexual lifestyle. In 1990 Dr. Holsinger argued that the sexes are anatomically complementary and that "when the complementarity of the sexes is breached, injuries and diseases may occur." At his confirmation hearing yesterday Dr. Holsinger recanted his earlier statement, saying his views had "evolved" and that the issues he raised are not relevant in public health discussions today. While not an expert in human anatomy, I am 100% sure that human beings have not "evolved" into asexual beings, as Dr. Holsinger's new comments would suggest. American Minute with Bill Federer - July 12 - Born a slave around JULY 12, 1864, George Washington Carver became a scientist of international renown. On January 21, 1921, Carver addressed the United States House Ways and Means Committee on behalf of the United Peanut Growers Association on the use of peanuts to improve Southern economy. Initially given ten minutes to speak, the committee was so captivated, his time was extended. Explaining the many products derived from the peanut, including milk, mock beef and mock chicken, George Washington Carver stated: "If you go to the first chapter of Genesis, we can interpret very clearly, I think, what God intended when he said 'Behold, I have given you every herb that bears seed. To you it shall be meat.' This is what He means about it. It shall be meat. There is everything there to strengthen and nourish and keep the body alive and healthy." After nearly two hours, the chairman asked: "Dr. Carver, how did you learn all of these things?" Carver answered: "From an old book" "What book?" asked the Chairman. Carver replied, "The Bible." The Chairman inquired, "Does the Bible tell about peanuts?" "No, Sir" Dr. Carver replied, "It tells about the God who made the peanut. I asked Him to show me what to do with the peanut and He did."
