January 21, 2008 - A
government of, by, and for the people voters?
(Click links for complete columns)
Upfront -
A government of, by, and for the people voters? Nanny state
mandates: Healthcare, light bulbs, state controlled thermostats...and many
citizen drones drone on like obedient busy bees disinterested in "politics"
until it may be too late, if the politically correct redefine "liberty that
comes from God" to liberty as mandated by government. Election 2008 may not
mean much change to the drones in 2008, but the results will impact them and
their children greatly in the years that follow - one way or another. Will
Election 2008 reflect apathy or virtue? Will liberal socialists or
conservatives prevail in Election 2008? Will the GOP nominate a RINO, which
essentially means it might just not matter in Election 2008? (See Election
2008 resources below.)

STOP H1722 Transgender Bill Threatens Bathroom and Locker Room Safety in Massachusetts. (CoalitionForMarriage.org) In what State House News Service calls a "full court press," MassEquality has joined an effort to add "gender identity and expression" to the state's anti-discrimination and hate crimes statutes-creating the potential for a wave of access by those claiming to be transgender into gender-specific areas like public bathrooms. Openly homosexual Somerville Democrat Rep. Carl Sciortino filed H1722 and led an educational session, with support from MassEquality and The Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition, to press legislators to support the bill. Mass. Transgender Political Coalition Director Gunner Scott said the group will schedule one-on-one meetings between legislators and transgenders/transvestites to push for the bill.
Petition for registered Florida voters. (LC.org) Florida Marriage Amendment in Danger of Not Making 2008 Ballot We have just learned that, due to an unprecedented audit ordered by the Florida Division of Elections, approximately 30,000 Florida Marriage Protection Amendment petitions have been thrown out. Although over 611,000 signatures were gathered, the amendment is now short by 22,000 petitions as a result of the audit.
Oppose Government Surveillance of All Internet Activity (CAPwiz.com) Mike McConnell, Director of National Intelligence, is drafting a plan calling for the federal government to secretly watch America's cyberspace, a proposal that will raise obvious personal privacy issues. ...That would be a clear violation of the Fourth Amendment, which protects Americans against unreasonable searches and seizures, and requires that any searches be conducted only upon issuance of a warrant under conditions of probable cause.

Campaign watch: Still no Republican front-runner (08-03 Digest PatriotPost.us) Mitt Romney won the primary in his native state of Michigan this week, beating second-place finisher John McCain by nine points and third-place Mike Huckabee by 23. Now the burden is on Huckabee to finish well in South Carolina this weekend in order to stay near the top of the pack. Thus far, we have seen three major contests with three different winners. What of Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson? Well, Thompson is spending a lot of energy in South Carolina, doing his best to dispel the idea that Huckabee (perish the thought) should be the conservative standard bearer in that state. Giuliani remains in Florida where, for better or worse, he has placed virtually all his chips. While more people seem to be warming to Giuliani’s strategy of delegates over states, he has placed himself in a tough position because expectations for him to win the Sunshine State are so high that even a second-place finish could doom his campaign. As for Ron Paul and Duncan Hunter, both have vowed to stay in the race, thumbing their noses at the Leftmedia. Hunter, who boasts a lifetime rating of 92 from the American Conservative Union, took a few shots at the “knuckleheads” in the press who excluded him from the New Hampshire and South Carolina debates. Hunter also detailed the reasons why he was staying on, noting, “I think that the issues for this country for the next five years will be largely security issues, and intertwined with those security issues will be whether or not we keep America’s industrial base, what I call the arsenal of democracy—or... move it offshore.” Ron Paul’s call to return government to the size and intent of the Founders rings true for a respectable number of conservative and libertarian voters. However, Paul continues to call for immediate withdrawal from Iraq—a position more akin to the Democrats than to most conservatives, and one that is dangerous for our nation. Thus the jumbled herd of pachyderms rumbles on...
ME FOR PRESIDENT (GrassTopsUSA.com Exclusive Commentary) By Don Feder - ...The shape of things to come may be seen in last year's demonstrations by millions of self-righteous felons and their supporters. Those from Mexico, in particular, proclaimed their right to be here in territory they say the gringo (that's us) stole from their homeland. If you want to live in a banana republic some day, keep voting for amnesty-mongering politicians. ...Related to the immigration nightmare is the assault on English. No one asked the American people if they wanted bi-lingual education, bi-lingual ballots, interpreters in government offices and "press one for English." ...Terrorism is the other major challenge to our national survival. We need to be constantly reminded that there are people out there in the millions who want to kill us or conquer us, rule us and destroy our way of life. These are homicidal cretins we can't appease, negotiate with or conciliate. (These are only snipets - you really want to read the entire commentary.)
Argus Hamilton: “The candidates should never keep shouting the word change to three hundred million people with a TV remote in their hands.”
Which is broken, the government or the people? JR Dieckmann (RenewAmerica.us) This is starting out to be a most interesting election year. While Republican candidates are telling us that government is broken and the people need to fix it, Democrat candidates are telling us that the people are broken and need the government to fix it.
America's Christian Heritage (America's Christian Heritage) & Church and State (Wall of Separation?)
08-04 Brief (PatriotPost.us) “One of the obvious differences between Democrats and Republicans is the role that religion plays in their presidential campaigns. For instance, every Democrat, while pretending to believe that ‘separation of church and state’ actually appears somewhere in the Constitution, must also insist that religion plays an essential role in his or her life. But just about the only time you see them going to church is when they’re posing for the cameras while addressing a black Baptist congregation. What’s more, when questioning these people, the liberal media kindly limits itself to a yes or no question regarding the existence of God. However, when the candidates are Republicans, you might get the idea that the members of the MSM were boning up for their theology exams. Is Huckabee too Christian? Does he actually believe the universe was created in six days? When he was a governor, did he go out of his way to commute the sentences of felons because he was a sucker for anyone who announced he’d found Christ in the slammer? Is Giuliani, who contributed to Pro-Choice organizations, flying under false colors as a Catholic? Does Romney really believe that Satan and Jesus are brothers, or at least third cousins, once removed? Why is it, I wonder, that nobody is asking Barack Obama about his religious convictions? From what I’ve gathered, they’re far more fascinating than Mitt Romney’s.” —Burt Prelutsky
10 Reasons Why Pastors Avoid the Culture War Doug Giles (Townhall.com) As far as I’m concerned, a silent or waffling pastor in today’s paranormal climate is about as necessary as Rosie O’Donnell is to CPAC. I don’t care how much the minister likes kitty cats, candy canes, and if he cries at Celine Dion concerts. Look, voiceless vicar, if you’re not currently in the middle of this crucial cultural squabble, pointing out what’s putrid and cheering on what’s proper, then you’re Dr. Evil in my book. Given that this is an upcoming election year and that the culture-dividing issues are more obvious than Joan Rivers’ last lip implants, it is mind-boggling to me that many ministers are mute or side with parties, policies and principles that are antithetical to the Christian worldview. I don’t know if you got this memo in seminary but pastors are not only supposed to salvage souls but also build good society. In some kind of ascending order, it seems to me there are 10 reasons why pastors and priests avoid political and intense cultural issues and thus aid and abet evil:

Immigration & English vs. America's Heritage, Sovereignty, Safety, & Security (Immigration and English)
To Assimilate or not to Assimilate: That is the Quesion - Phyllis Schlafly (Townhall.com) Are you tired of anonymous voices on the phone telling you to "Press 1 (or sometimes 2) for English"? The ability to speak and communicate in English is the litmus test of whether immigrants are assimilating into U.S. culture. To become a naturalized U.S. citizen, the law states that the immigrant must demonstrate "the ability to read, write and speak ordinary English." All public opinion polls confirm by majorities approaching 90 percent that this is what the American people want. Despite the law, the Pew Hispanic Center just reported that only 52 percent of Hispanic naturalized citizens speak English well or pretty well. Pew also reported that 28 percent of Latino immigrants speak only Spanish on the job.

Same-sex Relationships / Transgenders / "Hate" Crimes?- ("Against Nature", Same-sex Marriage, "Hate Crimes", Selective Compliance, Hope for the Homosexual)
Romans 1: 26-32 (Power New Testament) Because of this God gave them over into vile passion of disgrace, and indeed their females exchanged the natural function for that contrary to nature, and likewise also the males who neglected the natural function with the females. They were inflamed in their lustful passion with one another, males performing the unseemly deed with males and receiving the reward which was necessary for their deceit in repayment for their sin. And since they did not see fit to have true knowledge of God, God gave them over into an unrighteous (reprobate) mind, to do the shameful things, since they were filled with every unrighteousness, wickedness, avarice, desire to injure. full of envy, murder, contention, deceit, evil habits, whisperers, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant, braggart, contriving evil, refusing to obey parents, without understanding, covenant breaking, without natural affection without mercy: who, although they know the ordinances of God thoroughly, because they are practicing such things as these that are worth of death, not only are they doing them but they are applauding others who do them.

The Golden Compass -- A Briefing for Concerned Christians Albert Mohler - This is not just any fantasy trilogy or film project. Philip Pullman has an agenda -- an agenda about as subtle as an army tank. His agenda is nothing less than to expose what he believes is the tyranny of the Christian faith and the Christian church. His hatred of the biblical storyline is clear. He is an atheist whose most important literary project is intended to offer a moral narrative that will reverse the biblical account of the fall and provide a liberating mythology for a new secular age.
Second Amendment (Second Amendment - NRA-ILA State Roundup)
Leading Democratic Candidates Call for Severe Restrictions on our Second Amendment Rights: (ILAalerts.org) With the Presidential nominating season in full swing, trying to pin down the various candidates' unequivocal stance on issues of import can often be difficult, if not impossible. Amidst their political posturing and refining of positions at the recent Las Vegas Caucus, Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY), Senator Barack Obama (D-IL), and former Senator John Edwards (D-NC), were asked a series of questions about the gun issue. All called for severe restrictions on our Second Amendment rights. To view a video of the exchange, please visit our NRA-Political Victory Fund website (www.nrapvf.org) and click on the video feed in the center of the page.
Bruce's History Lessons: The oh so controversial second amendment - By Bruce Kauffmann Special to the Tribune-Star - When the Bill of Rights was ratified this week (Dec. 15) in 1791, the Founders never dreamed that centuries later the Second Amendment would become so controversial. To them, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed,” was fairly straightforward language. ...James Madison’s original Second Amendment language was as follows: “The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; a well armed and well regulated militia being the best security of a free country.” Written that way, he is saying that if the people don’t have the right to arms, there can’t be a militia. That Congress reversed the order does not change Madison’s intent.

Firemen getting enhanced pensions Over 100 reported injuries while filling in for bosses at higher salary levels; Supplements will cost Boston $25m in long run By Walter V. Robinson and Jesse Nankin, Globe Correspondents | January 7, 2008 - In the last six years, 102 Boston firefighters have substantially enhanced their tax-free disability pensions by claiming career-ending injuries while they were filling in for superiors at higher pay grades, according to a Globe review of city retirement and payroll records. By making their injury claims while on temporary assignment, the firefighters were able to boost their pensions an average of $10,300 a year, to $61,737 apiece. The average lifetime increase for the 102 firefighters works out to $248,000, according to actuarial tables. The supplements, made possible by a provision in the firefighters contract, will cost the city $25 million over time.

Democracy Without Liberty Is Just Authority By Frank Salvato (GOPUSA.com) Democracy is not the first step toward a free people, it is the last step. The first step toward a free society is the incremental establishment of basic liberty. Let's face it; a benevolent king who bequeaths liberty to his kingdom's subjects is better than a democratically elected Hamas who keep their people living in squalor only to advance a totalitarian ideology on a region of the world.
THE REALITY OF UNIVERSAL POLITICAL STATES (ThomasBrewton.com - The View from 1776) Our secular public schools teach a brand of socialism that denigrates the United States and its foundation in Judeo-Christian morality, a brand of socialism that envisions social and political perfection as a one-world government under the United Nations. City Journal notes some of the pitfalls awaiting us on that path.

(Politically Correct - The need to flag words and actions that have been redefined for political correctness which require processing through the filter of misapplied compassion that lacks moral virtue and righteous justice: When you hear, mainstream, fairness, diversity, tolerance, discrimination, hate, fear, bigotry, progressive, values, facts....) INSIGHT - 08-04 Brief (PatriotPost.us) “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.’... I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character... And if America is to be a great nation this must become true.” —Martin Luther King, Jr. - Historian Shelby Steele observes, “There is an awful lot of conservative sentiment in black America, but at the moment, the party line is ruthlessly enforced.” Indeed, those who followed Martin Luther King when he was speaking of freedom, like Jesse Jackson, tolerate no dissension from their liberal ranks now. They have abandoned King’s dream, and aligned themselves with political and social agendas obsessed with color at the expense of character. Black conservatives of national stature, like Clarence Thomas, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powel, Ward Connerly, Michael Steele, Jesse Lee Peterson, Alan Keyes, Don Scoggins, Alvin Williams, Ken Blackwell, Thomas Sowell, Star Parker and Walter Williams are routinely castigated by Jackson, et al., as “Uncle Toms” and “puppets.” Yet these are the men and women following the call of King. Irrespective of one’s conclusion about Martin Luther King’s proper place in history (given the historical account of his personal integrity and character), the two texts cited below (from The Patriot’s Historic Documents section) are well worth reading—for each of them proclaim truth. - “I have a dream” “Letter from a Birmingham jail”EarsToHear.net Subscription Service
