Character Questions

Upfront - Character Questions By Brian Fitzpatrick - Critics are saying ABC should have focused on the “issues,” by which they mean Clinton’s and Obama’s policy proposals. Of course the policy proposals are important. That’s why ABC devoted the second half of the debate to them. But character, values and judgment ought to outweigh the “issues” when we’re electing a president. For one thing, the personal character of a president affects his job performance and the moral example he sets for the nation. For example, Bill Clinton – enough said.

Tell the FCC to keep FREE SPEECH FREE and not to tamper with Christian and religious programming! The FCC is taking comments on these proposals. You can add your comments to the record. The FCC can only make rule changes based on evidence – and the evidence you submit can make a difference! Although not directed specifically at those using the airwaves to disseminate the Good News of the Gospel, potential rule changes could put Christian Broadcasters in an untenable position. If enacted, the proposals could force Christian radio programmers to either compromise their messages by including input from those who don’t share the same values, or to run the risk of costly, long and potentially ruinous government inquiries.

Christian Teachers and Students in Public Schools Across America Should Bring Bibles to Class -- Immediately -- by the Millions Persecution of Ohio teacher for Bible on desk is opportunity to stand for truth and justice. - "The nationwide righteous anger over the persecution of Mount Vernon, Ohio public school teacher John Freshwater for daring to have a Bible on his desk should inspire millions of Christians in America's public schools to bring in their own Bibles," says Bob Pawson, National Coordinator of the Scriptures in Schools Project. "Teachers, students, and support staff should immediately flood America's public schools with Bibles. Keep Bibles in class for the remainder of the school year. Find creative ways to use Bible references to complete some homework and in-class assignments each week," says Pawson, a Trenton, NJ public school teacher.

Cheap Grace (The View from 1776) Reactions of some nominal Christians to the message of Pope Benedict XVI are nothing more than liberal-progressive-socialistic “toleration.” In his April 18th column for the Washington Post, E. J. Dionne, Jr. expresses the misgivings of liberal-progressives who enjoy the ritual of religion, but don’t want to be bothered with following the teachings of Jesus.
Report Uncovers Hidden Cost of Immigration By Phyllis Schlafly - Are you having a hard time paying your bills, making your mortgage payments, or putting your kids through college? You need to know how much of your hard-earned income the government is skimming off and diverting into handouts to immigrants and illegal immigrants. You can read the depressing details in the new 70-page document called "The Economic and Fiscal Impact of Immigration" by Edwin S. Rubenstein (www.eagleforum.org/sources). A Manhattan Institute adjunct fellow with a mile-long scholarly resume, he has been doing financial analysis ever since he directed the studies of government waste for the Grace Commission of 1984. Elvira Arellano sports a "Who Would Jesus Deport?" T-shirt in the upstairs apartment of the Adalberto United Methodist Church in Chicago, Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006. Arellano is illegal immigrant who has taken refuge in the church. Her 7-year-old son Saul, a U.S. citizen, appeared in Mexico's 500-member Chamber of Deputies Tuesday to plead for help in lobbying Washington to stop the deportation of his mother. (AP Photo/Charles Rex Arbogast) Related Media: VIDEO: NY Gov. Drops License Plan for Illegal Immigrant The bottom line, which you need to know for your own bottom line, is that U.S. taxpayers are giving more than $9,000 a year in cash or benefits to each immigrant, a third of whom are in the country illegally. That's $36,000 for each immigrant household of four.

08-16 Digest PatriotPost.us - Massachusetts healthcare troubles, take two With each passing week come additional revelations about the Law of Unintended Consequences’ continuing effect upon Massachusetts’ new experiment in universal government healthcare. In an ode to budgetary ineptitude, liberals’ promises of controlled program costs have erupted into one of the state’s largest budget items. Despite an ever-increasing share of the state budget, this misguided big-government scheme has still managed to cover only about half of the uninsured persons for whom it was intended and is generating cost overruns ranging from $400 to $700 million per year. To get their big-government boondoggle approved by voters and the legislature, liberals originally underestimated costs by a factor of four. Or worse. The most remarkable aspect of this out-of-control program is the lack of voter outcry, though we suspect that these taxpayers will soon demand accountability from their government. Until then, the same people providing the stellar service at the local Registry of Motor Vehicles will also control a large portion of the healthcare market in Massachusetts.
“There is [a] class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs—partly because they want sympathy, and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs... There is a certain class of race-problem solvers who don’t want the patient to get well, because as long as the disease holds out they have not only an easy means of making a living, but also an easy medium through which to make themselves prominent before the public.” - Booker T. Washington in his 1911 book, My Larger Education
“Why did you give $22,500 just two years ago [and more than $26,000 in 2007] to a church run by a man of the past who infects the younger generation with precisely the racial attitudes and animus you say you have come unto us to transcend?... This contextual analysis of Wright’s venom, this extenuation of black hate speech as a product of white racism, is not new. It’s the Jesse Jackson politics of racial grievance, expressed in Ivy League diction and Harvard Law nuance. That’s why the speech made so many liberal commentators swoon: It bathed them in racial guilt while flattering their intellectual pretensions. An unbeatable combination.” - Charles Krauthammer

Obama's Head Condescending Remarks Reveal Obama’s True Feelings About Faith, Firearms and Working-Class Voters - Remember Herman’s Head, the Fox sitcom that ran from 1991 to 1994?
Obama's 'small town' comments perpetuate liberal myth, says observer A former deputy assistant to President Bush says during a recent private fundraiser in California, Barack Obama demonstrated his liberal elitism when he accused small-town Americans of being bitter and bigoted.
We're not bitter, Obama, just a little frustrated Barbara Anderson - Columnist Stephen Moore in the March 24 Weekly Standard writes "As California taxpayers wake up to the enormous future tax increases they and their children face to pay the expansive promises to city, county, and state workers, they're wondering, 'How did they get these sweet deals?'" He notes that "some of the highest paid state workers are walking away with lifetime annual pensions and health benefits of $300,000 a year. ... Nationally, public employees now receive (on average) $39.50 an hour in wages and benefits, according to 2007 Bureau of Labor Statistics..." So listen up, Obama-Phenoma, while I speak for myself and, I think, many other Americans who are wondering, frustrated, ticked, outraged even. Despite what you and your moonbat friends think, it has nothing to do with being either religious or a gun owner, or the things you equate with these — bigotry, anti-immigrant or anti-trade. We are angry about the privileged political and union classes, about ILLEGAL immigration, about UNFAIR trade agreements. ...I'm not beyond anger yet, myself. I left small-town Pennsylvania long ago, do not cling to religion or guns, but share my friends' feelings on illegal immigration and unfair trade. I admit to antipathy toward people who are not like me — not people of different race, creed or country, Obama, just smug, superior liberals like you and your San Francisco elitist supporters.
To understand Obama, read Sowell Michael Gaynor - The reality is that Obama is a secular extremist who disdains religion, which James Madison defined as "the duty owned the creator," as an expression of economic frustration, while historically the American people overwhelmingly are a religious people who believe that America is "one Nation, under God" and put their trust in God (as noted on America's currency and coin). ...Mr. Sowell: "It is understandable that young people are so strongly attracted to Obama. Youth is another name for inexperience — and experience is what is most needed when dealing with skillful and charismatic demagogues."

Digest PatriotPost.us (Mark Alexander) -
Barack Obama is the most
radical Leftist to ever make it this far in a presidential primary. In
Part 2 of this series,
“Disciple of Hate,” I summarized the influence of his religious mentor
for the last two decades, black supremacist Jeremiah Wright. This week’s
essay will provide insight into Obama’s political mentors, all
protagonists of Marxist-inspired anti-American movements. If a man can be
judged by the company he keeps, Obama should be judged harshly. He may be
a “closet smoker,” but as more of his mentors are smoked out of his
closet, it becomes increasingly clear that Obama is just another
traitorous Leftist posing as an all-American. ...A more in-depth look
at Obama reveals he may indeed be a “hard-core academic Marxist” as
accused by his 2004 Senate campaign opponent, and sacrificial lamb, Alan
Keyes. Obama admits to having attended “socialist conferences” as a
“community organizer” in Chicago in the late 1980s, where he broke bread
with Democratic Socialists of America lefties—also with full-circle
connections to William Ayers. But that is hardly the extent of Obama’s
fascination with Marxist ideology. According to my colleague, Cliff
Kincaid, Accuracy in Media editor and president of the UN watchdog group
America’s Survival, Obama was mentored for most of his formative years by
black radical Frank Marshall Davis, a Communist Party USA member. Obama
had “a close relationship, almost like a son, with Davis,” writes Kincaid.
...Obama’s record speaks for itself. In 2006, Senator Obama campaigned for
the re-election of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who openly lists his
party affiliation as “Socialist.” Sanders applauded freshman Sen. Obama as
“one of the great leaders of the United States Senate,” and understandably
so. Last year, National Journal, which rates members of Congress
strictly by their voting records, ranked Obama as the single most liberal
member of the Senate—a remarkable “achievement,” given the Socialist bona
fides of the aforementioned Sanders.
James Madison to America: This is what we warned you about Jerry Bowyer - “James Madison wrote a pro-constitution editorial (known to history as Federalist 10), that described in prescient terms precisely why political factions are dangerous. When there is liberty, he argued, some men will create more wealth than others. Property and class factions are the result. Members of these different economic classes are tempted to pass laws which help themselves at the expense of the overall public good... Ambitious men with rhetorical skill exploit these factions, rising through them to positions of power. In fact, these ambitious men need factions in order to gain what they want. Groups of politically alienated voters are ideally suited to a demagogue’s desire for power and prestige. The narcissists and the fanatics feed one another... Washington, following Madison’s lead, warned us in his Farewell Address that the power of party (his word for faction) tends to create convulsion and ‘false alarms’; that is social unrest and bizarre warnings about phantom dangers. According to Madison, eventually factions can gain so much power that they are able to promote laws which destroy the liberty of other citizens. For instance (and these examples are his, not mine) they may erasing debt obligations, or impose trade restrictions in order to protect certain interest groups from foreign competition, or perhaps impose special taxes on the numerically small propertied classes. Both Madison and Washington also warned future generations about the role of foreign powers in this process. Faction leaders often identify less with America than they do with their country of origin. For all of these reason, factions should be discouraged, and their effects minimized, said the men who met in Philadelphia. As I write this, I’m less and less clear whether I’m writing about Philadelphia in 1788 (when the constitution was implemented) or Philadelphia in 2008 (as I see it shredded). You probably are too.”
08-17 Brief PatriotPost.us - “Before government hijacked charity in the form of the New Deal and Great Society, compassion and charity began at home. People were to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit prisoners, care for widows and orphans and love their enemies. Those were biblical commands to individuals, not government. Democratic politicians see things differently. Apparently believing there aren’t enough caring people, they want compassion to originate in Washington, depriving it of its true meaning. They define compassion as big and ever-growing government and a guaranteed check forever with no expectation—or requirement—the recipient will ever better his or her circumstances. Traditionally, Republican compassion has encouraged private charity with government picking up the leftovers of what religious and other charitable institutions were unable to do. President Bush, through his ‘faith-based initiative,’ took this one step further by subsidizing religious groups with federal money. This removes the responsibility and privilege from individuals and turns it over to government. When that happens, religious organizations become one more constituency in the never-ending campaign for political support. Once, evangelicals ‘prayed it in’ when they needed money. Now too many of them ask government to ‘send it in’.” Cal Thomas
A new Heritage map makes this clear the facts on the mortgage mess. Heritage experts broke down the data and found that the mortgage crisis isn’t as widespread as some media reports and politicians suggest. Instead, the problem is concentrated in a handful of states. Just 13 states, led by Minnesota, Ohio and Michigan, have a sub-prime foreclosure rate of more than 10 percent. Congressional efforts to “do something” about mortgages may actually make things worse and prevent economic recovery.
Violent chickens roost on candidates' shoulders: exploring the liberal/Marxist nexus Last week's Clinton/Obama debate opened a new door on an old coalition: What is it about Marxists (violent or otherwise) that attracts liberals (well-meaning or otherwise) to their defense? What is their common goal (to the extent that they have one)?

08-17 Digest PatriotPost.us - “The Bible tells us in the Old Testament, ‘To minister to the needs of God’s creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us.’ On this Earth Day, and every day, let us honor the earth and our future generations with a commitment to fight climate change.” Or so said Nancy Pelosi in her Earth Day news release. The trouble is, the Bible doesn’t tell us that. Neither the quote nor a close paraphrase can be found in Scripture—Old or New Testaments. This isn’t the first time Pelosi has peddled her eco-theology either. December 2005 and February, April and October 2007 all found her using the same “quote” supposedly from the book of Isaiah. Her principle of putting the earth above Man, for whom the world was made, is a bit backwards to begin with. Not to mention a lie. We suspect Pelosi is reading the AAGV Bible—the Albert Arnold Gore Version.

“We never cease to be amazed
by the inability of the left to feel shame and its lack of reverence for
America and those who defend its freedoms, including the right to be
stupid. The cover of the April 21 issue of Time,
taking the famous Joe Rosenthal photo of Marines planting our flag on the
blood-soaked island of Iwo Jima and
replacing our flag with a tree, qualifies for obscenity of the year.
It echoes the greenie theme first advanced by Al Gore in his book
Earth In The Balance that the internal combustion engine is the
greatest threat in the history of mankind. Gore and Bill Clinton have both
said that global warming is ultimately a greater threat than terrorism...
This trivializing of the sacrifice of American blood and treasure to
defend freedom ignores the fact that in World War II we faced a real enemy
with a terrible agenda. The bombs that fell on Pearl Harbor were quite
real, not the output of some badly fed computer model. ‘Global warming may
or may not be a significant threat to the United States,’ Tim Holbert, a
spokesman for the American Veterans Center, [said]: ‘The Japanese Empire

most recognizable moment of one of the bloodiest battles in

Sign letter to Richard Stengel, managing editor of TIME magazine - Brent Bozell has just drafted a very strong letter to Richard Stengel, managing editor of TIME magazine in which he calls the cover "appalling, and offensive to the veterans of the battle of Iwo Jima, the United States Marine Corps, all members of our Armed Services and every American who understands and reveres the sacrifice of those Marines who fought and died to raise our flag atop Mount Suribachi."
“The big irony here is that while Obama has done extremely well for himself in our very unique free-market economy, he has the ‘audacity’ to demonize others who have done well for themselves, and to propose economic policies that, if implemented, would radically change our nation into something more akin to a Western European socialist state.” - Austin Hill

Expelled: a Movie that Exposes the Startling Bias against Intelligent Design by Aimee Herd : Apr 18, 2008 : BCN exclusive interview - "We want to break that open so these [scientists] feel safe enough to come out and express their disbelief, or at least their questions, about Darwinism without having their careers crushed. I'm hoping this film will be a catalyst to help drive that. We've got a long way to go, but the goal here is freedom in science…when people can freely discuss ideas, the truth will come." The following is an exclusive interview with Mark Mathis, Associate Producer for the film, "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed." Mark, how did you originally become involved with this film? What was it that made you want to work on it?
'Expelled' looks at academia's efforts to silence opposition to Darwinism A movie opening in theaters nationwide today examines how educators and scientists are being ridiculed, denied tenure, and even fired for questioning Darwinism.

What follows is a straightforward, 4-step refutation of the theory of
evolution. They're easy to remember, and make a nice little cadence when
spoken with a little rhythm: First Law, Second Law, Fossils and Genes.
Armed with this truth, go forth and conquer.
Before we even start, we ought to notice that, if evolution is true, there
would be no way to know it. Because evolution teaches that everything that
exists is the product of the random collision of atoms, this logically
includes the thoughts I am thinking about evolution. But if my thoughts
are the product of the random collision of atoms, there is no reason to
think that any of them are true — they just are.

In Palladium magazine, September 20, 1789, Fisher Ames wrote: "We have a dangerous trend beginning to take place in our education. We're starting to put more textbooks into our schools...containing fables and moral lessons...We are spending less time in the classroom on the Bible, which should be the principal text in our schools." Fischer Ames concluded: "The Bible states these great moral lessons better than any other manmade book." (American Minute)

Dissatisfied with the children's spelling books, he wrote the famous "Blue-Backed Speller," which sold over one hundred million copies. After twenty-six years of work, he published the first American Dictionary of the English Language. His name was Noah Webster, and he died MAY 28, 1843. In his 1788 essay, "On the Education of Youth in America," printed in Webster's American Magazine, Noah Webster wrote: "Select passages of Scripture...may be read in schools, to great advantage. In some countries the common people are not permitted to read the Bible at all. In ours, it is as common as a newspaper and in schools is read with nearly the same degree of respect." Noah Webster continued: "My wish is not to see the Bible excluded from schools but to see it used as a system of religion and morality." In his book, "The History of the United States," published in 1832, Noah Webster wrote: "All the miseries and evils which men suffer from vice, crime, ambition, injustice, oppression, slavery and war, proceed from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible."
In 1781 Congress ruled that a new English edition of the Bible be printed and used by schools. (Where was the ACLU?)

Widely used public school textbook criticized for being too conservative An advanced textbook on American government is drawing criticism from scholars for alleged errors concerning climate change and separation of church and state. ...Under criticism are statements that cause students to question whether the debate over "global warming" is really over, and whether the issue of "separation of church and state" is being correctly interpreted. Critics also accuse the textbook of having a conservative bias on a number of other issues. The executive director of Christian Educators Association International (CEAI) disagrees with the critics. "I don't think it's the job of our public schools to indoctrinate children to tell them what they should believe about global warming," says Finn Laursen, "but let's educate them; let's let them [think] like great minds of the past did, and let's let them openly discuss the issues. And if we don't let them know that there are two sides, that discussion won't happen," he contends.
Children's hospital launches sex change for kids program 'This isn't conjecture, it's happening now' - By Bob Unruh © 2008 WorldNetDaily - A doctor at the renowned Children's Hospital Boston has launched a new program to drug children to delay puberty so they can decide whether they want a male or a female body, according to a report today in the Boston Globe. Studies Demonstrate Abstinence Education Works - Two new studies presented at the National Press Club provide encouraging findings about abstinence education. The first study by Dr. Stan Weed, Institute of Research and Evaluation, evaluated the impact of abstinence education in reducing the initiation of sexual activity by seventh graders in suburban Virginia. Dr. Weed's findings demonstrate that abstinence education programs cut the rate of sexual initiation among students almost in half and that gender and race did not affect the outcome. Dr. Weed is scheduled to present his findings at a hearing in the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday, April 23, 2008. The second paper is a background paper published by Heritage Foundation's Christine Kim and Robert Rector. This paper reviews twenty-one abstinence education programs and finds that sixteen overall reported statistically positive results such as delayed sexual initiation and reduced levels of early sexual activity.
Politically Correct Conventional Wisdom By Doug Patton - Until last week, I still had hope. I still believed, perhaps naively, that the majority of Americans were wise enough to see the truth. Perhaps they are, but given the onslaught of political correctness now surrounding the topic, I seriously doubt it. I think we have lost the battle. The issue is global warming, now cleverly called “climate change” by those who seek to explain away those pesky unseasonable drops in temperature that contradict the idea of “warming.”
Homeschooling: A Growing Option in American Education by Dan Lips and Evan Feinberg - A growing number of American families are choosing to homeschool their children. The U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics reports that approximately 1.1 million children (2.2 percent of school-age children) were being educated at home as of 2003—29 percent more than the 850,000 students who were being homeschooled in 1998. Another estimate projects that 2 million or more children may be homeschooling.
Emphasizing class size over teacher quality is a poor choice - When it comes to education, we have chosen poorly. A September 2007 report by McKinsey & Company, titled "How the World's Best Performing School Systems Come Out on Top," contains an especially interesting discussion of South Korean schools. South Korea spends less per pupil than the U.S., has average class sizes twice as big as ours, and their students clobber American students in international comparisons.

Rehab uncovers trove of historical items - Redevelopment of old school unearths century-old documents - LMM Realty bought a piece of Worcester history when it purchased Adams Street School, but the firm didn’t realize how much history until workers found an old file cabinet containing 100 years of attendance records and other items. Much more than simple checks of “present,” the records, handwritten until about the 1980s, reveal changing demographics, outbreaks of illnesses such as scarlet fever, and advice not to waste food from Herbert Hoover. ...The records also show wild variation in class sizes. For much of the 1890s, class sizes were 40 or more students, but there might be 10 one year and 50 the next, Ms. Vayo said. The century that the documents span also included instances of 60 kids in a classroom, she said.
Earth's Hum Sounds More Mysterious Than EverBy Charles Q. Choi, Special to LiveScience - Earth gives off a relentless hum of countless notes completely imperceptible to the human ear, like a giant, exceptionally quiet symphony, but the origin of this sound remains a mystery. Now unexpected powerful tunes have been discovered in this hum. These new findings could shed light on the source of this enigma. The planet emanates a constant rumble far below the limits of human hearing, even when the ground isn't shaking from an earthquake. (It does not cause the ringing in the ear linked with tinnitus.) This sound, first discovered a decade ago, is one that only scientific instruments — seismometers — can detect. Researchers call it Earth's hum.

The Truths Shall Set You Free by Iain Murray - About a year ago, I became convinced that the global warming debate was going the way of other environmental issues during the past 40 years. Dissenting voices were being silenced as America hurtled toward more laws, regulations, and bureaucratic control -- which, "informed" opinion makers insist, are the only solutions allowed to any problems global warming might bring. Sadly, this pattern has repeated time and again on a wide array of environmental issues since the 1960s, when the lawyers of the nascent Environmental Defense Fund began lobbying for local, then national, and then international bans on the pesticide DDT. The results in virtually every case have been disastrous: significant losses of both liberty and prosperity and, in some cases, environmental and humanitarian catastrophe. That's why I wrote my book, The Really Inconvenient Truths: Seven Environmental Catastrophes Liberals Don't Want You to Know About -- Because They Helped Cause Them. I wanted to show how the preferred response of command-and-control is precisely the wrong way to address environmental problems. In a very literal sense, the truths can set you free.
