Upfront -How to Receive the Revival We Need By Michael Carl - Concern over this nation’s drift into economic chaos has been a frequent discussion topic in the blogosphere. I admit to spending a great deal of time over the past two to three weeks emailing everyone I know about the crisis over gasoline prices and illegal immigration. Yet, even though I know we are all quite rightly concerned over these and other issues, they are tragically only symptoms of a deeper problem. They are symptoms of a nation that has lost its way; those issues and social ills are symptoms of a nation that has been at war with itself and at war against its Christian heritage. They are also symptoms of a deeper problem that lies embedded in the country’s churches. ...It comes down to this: We need to bow down before the Lord in earnest repentance and ask Him to break our hearts. We have to fall down on our knees and weep. As mentioned earlier in this article, the pastors and priests must lead the way. This is the reason I believe that God is leading me to call on our churches to move into a time of extraordinary prayer. If need be, let us begin with a small step, such as the call for unified prayer every Tuesday evening at 8:50 p.m. Eastern Time.

Tell Congress To Restore the Double-Layer Fence Mandate… Grassfire’s 48 Hour Phone and Fax Blitz - On July 9-10, Grassfire will launch a 48-Hour Phone and Fax Blitz calling on Congress to reinstate the Secure Fence Act and get the border fence built. With both Presidential candidates opposing a border fence, H.R. 4987 -- the Fence By Date Certain Act -- is our last chance to get the border fence built as promised. It is up to grassroots Americans to force this issue, and send a message unlike any other to Congress—a message that can’t be ignored. We want to flood Congress with 100,000 phone calls and faxes on July 9 and 10 demanding that the Secure Fence Act is reinstated. Use the form below to let us know if you will make phone calls and/or schedule faxes.

FRC Action Takes on Pro-Abortion Hypocrisy in National Ad - FRC Action's new ad on Sen. Obama is already exploding across cyberspace, and a television version is scheduled to air in key TV markets beginning today. The Caucus, blog of the New York Times, featured the ad in their story, "New Ad Hits Obama on Abortion." Making his online debut is Samuel Perkins, our youngest son, who helps me drive the point home that fatherhood isn't the only thing that starts at conception. If You Build It, They Won't Come by Cal Thomas - On Monday, the Supreme Court refused to take up the appeal lodged by environmental groups that focused on a two-mile stretch of border fence in the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area near Naco, Ariz. The fence, which has been built since the petition was filed, is a vital part of the Bush administration’s drive to secure the border between the United States and Mexico. The Supreme Court’s decision is a welcome and needed victory in the war against illegal immigration and efforts to preserve the unique character that is America. The environmentalists based part of their challenge on claims the fence would harm the mating habits of two types of wildcats.

Mexican set free after border patrol agent struck, killed Judge releases drug dealer accused of murdering U.S. officer with vehicle - Jesus Navarro Montes - Officials are outraged after a Mexican judge released a Mexican national who allegedly struck and killed a U.S. Border Patrol agent with his vehicle. Jesus Navarro Montes was accused of intentionally killing Agent Luis Aguilar Jan. 19 near the Imperial Sand Dunes in Imperial County, Calif., the Los Angeles Times reported. Aguilar was attempting to stop two Mexican vehicles from entering the country illegally. As he positioned a strip of tire spikes into the road, Montes allegedly rammed his vehicle into the agent and killed him. Now a Mexican judge has released Montes without restrictions. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said he was shocked at the Mexican judge's decision to free Montes. "We are working with a determined Mexican government and our Department of Justice to seek swift justice for the Aguilar murder," Chertoff said in a statement. "We have also assured Agent Aguilar's family that every resource is being called upon in the relentless pursuit of justice."

“The Constitution shall never be construed... to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms.” - Samuel Adams

08-26 Digest - “I am profoundly disappointed in Justice Roberts and Justice Alito, both of whom assured us of their respect for precedent. With this decision, 70 years of precedent has gone out the window. And I believe the people of this great country will be less safe because of it.” - Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), who said of her own “right-to-carry” permit a few years back, “I know the urge to arm yourself because that’s what I did. I was trained in firearms. I carried a concealed weapon. I made the determination that if somebody was going to try to take me out, I was going to take them with me.” ...“It is frightening that America loves guns, and to me, I think this decision really places those who are rich and those are in power—they’ll always feel safe. Those who do not have the power do not feel safe, and that’s what they’re saying. If you’re elected officials, you feel safe. You cannot carry a gun into a federal building. You cannot carry a gun into a federal court. So they’re setting themselves aside, and really, they’re saying to the rest of America that the answer to all the constitutional issues is that we can carry guns. And I just don’t understand how they came to this thinking.” - Chicago Mobster, er, uh, Mayor, Richard Daley

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) and the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) filed a federal lawsuit challenging the City of Chicago’s long-standing handgun ban following Thursday’s 5-4 ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of District of Columbia v. Heller that the Second Amendment protects an individual civil right to keep and bear arms, and that a municipal gun ban violates that right. The case is McDonald v. City of Chicago. “Chicago’s handgun ban has failed to stop violent crime,” SAF founder Alan Gottlieb stated. “It’s time to give the Constitution a chance.”

CCRKBA, NRA CIVIL RIGHTS COALITION SUES SAN FRANCISCO OVER PUBLIC HOUSING GUN BAN - The lawsuit was filed in federal court against the City of San Francisco and the San Francisco Public Housing Authority to invalidate the City’s ordinance (Police Code section 617) and lease provision that bans the possession of firearms in public housing.

Barack Hussein Obama - “The notion that somehow local jurisdictions can’t initiate gun laws isn’t borne out by our Constitution.”

Obama Tries To Move Forward By Backpedaling:  By now we all know where presidential nominee Barack Obama stands on the Second Amendment.  During the primaries, Obama tried to hide behind vague statements of support for "sportsmen" or unfounded claims of general support for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.  But don't listen to his campaign rhetoric!  His real record, based on votes taken, political associations, long-standing positions, and his own words, shows that Barack Obama is a very serious threat to our Second Amendment liberties.

John McCain  - “Today’s ruling in District of Columbia v. Heller makes clear that other municipalities like Chicago that have banned handguns have infringed on the constitutional rights of Americans. Unlike the elitist view that believes Americans cling to guns out of bitterness, today’s ruling recognizes that gun ownership is a fundamental right—sacred, just as the right to free speech and assembly... This ruling does not mark the end of our struggle against those who seek to limit the rights of law-abiding citizens. We must always remain vigilant in defense of our freedoms. But today, the Supreme Court ended forever the specious argument that the Second Amendment did not confer an individual right to keep and bear arms.”

Barack Obama - the Teflon Candidate - It’s been a rough two weeks for Barack Obama, but his poll numbers remain strong and unchanged. Is he a Teflon candidate? Consider what’s happened since he clinched the Democratic nomination and Hillary “suspended” her campaign.

Obama's Long March By Charles Krauthammer - Obama's long march to the center has begun. And why not? What's the downside? He won't lose the left, or even mainstream Democrats. They won't stay home on Nov. 4. The anti-Bush, anti-Republican sentiment is simply too strong. Election Day is their day of revenge -- for the Florida recount, for Swift-boating, for all the injuries, real and imagined, dealt out by Republicans over the last eight years. Normally, flip-flopping presidential candidates have to worry about the press. Not Obama. After all, this is a press corps that heard his grandiloquent Philadelphia speech -- designed to rationalize why "I can no more disown (Jeremiah Wright) than I can disown my white grandmother" -- then wiped away a tear and hailed him as the second coming of Abraham Lincoln. Three months later, with Wright disowned, grandma embraced and the great "race speech" now inoperative, not a word of reconsideration is heard from his media acolytes.

Why Liberals Lie About What They Believe By John Hawkins - Once you've watched liberals long enough to understand how they think -- scratch that, how they feel -- they become extraordinarily predictable. To begin with, the liberal agenda is, in many respects, the same as it was in the thirties. Whether you call it communism, fascism, socialism, liberalism, or progressivism, the only real difference is how much they believe they can get away with, the way they sell it to people, and the latest trendy name for what they believe. ...So, those of us on the Right spend our time trying to explain to the American people what we really want to do, while the Left spends its time trying to hide what it really wants to do from the American people. ...More disturbing is the Left's ever-increasing reliance on what are commonly thought of as fascist tactics. Liberals at college campuses attempt to disrupt conservative speeches and the Democrats want to try to drive conservative talk radio hosts off the air with the Fairness Doctrine. Conservatives like Tom DeLay, Rush Limbaugh, and Ann Coulter have been targeted criminally for political reasons and there's even talk of trying to jail members of the Bush Administration over policy differences after they're out of office. Ideological soulmates of modern liberals -- like Stalin, Lenin, and Mao -- would certainly approve of those tactics.

Bolton: Israel Will Strike Iran if Obama Elected Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton believes Israel will stage a raid against Iran's nuclear facilities if Democratic nominee Barack Obama wins the upcoming presidential election in November.

McClintock Leads Republican Revolution By Kathryn Jean Lopez - In between recent meetings on Capitol Hill, a candidate and his campaign manager were talking about John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and the Declaration of Independence. "It's all there," in the declaration, the candidate said, looking up from inside his cab to see they were passing the National Archives. He believes every policy debate on the Hill comes down to the same principles of freedom declared in 1776. The 52-year-old conservative Republican candidate for Congress was as excited by the moment as a well-studied schoolboy, and the prospect of going to Washington in November to fight for the freedoms in that document have him "optimistic" about the future of our country. Even in a Pelosi-Reid Congress.

PELOSI CONFIRMS SHE WANTS TO CENSOR TALK RADIO - Nancy Pelsoi does not want to censor TV broadcast news because it is controlled by liberals. She does not want to censor major newspapers because they are controlled by liberals. She does not want to censor the Internet where liberal bloggers dominate. BUT ... Nancy Pelosi confirmed this week that she wants to censor talk radio which is dominated by conservatives. Read more. This is just the starting point. If Obama is in the Oval Office and Pelosi runs the House next year, they will criminalize what is now free speech. Criticism of abortion or homosexuality will cause confiscation of property and probably even imprisonment. This is the "change" Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi promise, a government much like that of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela.

Advertiser Accountability Campaign - Find Out Which Companies are Sponsoring Objectionable Content and Which are Promoting Family-Friendly Programming - More and more TV sponsors are pledging to help clean up TV -- thanks to the PTC! Last week, PTC Advisory Board member Fr. Val J. Peter, former executive director of Boys and Girls Town, attended a shareholder meeting of Berkshire/Hathaway, owner of Geico Insurance. At the meeting, Fr. Peter spoke about Geico's sponsorship of the ultra-sexual and violent FX cable network's program Dirt. Advertiser attrition may be one reason FX recently decided to cancel Dirt. More than 50 advertisers have stopped advertising on the show, many after being contacted by the PTC and its members about content concerns. In response to Fr. Peter's remarks Warren Buffett, Berkshire/Hathaway's Chairman of the Board, said, "I don't see why we can't fix this." In a subsequent call to Chairman Buffett's office, the PTC was invited to meet with Geico's marketing department to discuss their advertising choices. We now have a meeting scheduled at Geico's corporate headquarters in Washington, DC. And at an IBM corporate shareholder meeting last week, the PTC spoke out about the company's sponsorship of such sex-laden programs as Grey's Anatomy and Boston Legal. In response, IBM immediately scheduled a follow-up meeting with PTC Director of Corporate Relations Glen Erickson. During that meeting, IBM pledged to redirect their advertising dollars to sports and news programming and away from inappropriate prime-time shows. The PTC applauds both IBM and Geico for their responsible actions.

South Dakota Women's Group Applauds the 8th Circuit Court - Concerned Women for America (CWA) of South Dakota applauds the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for upholding South Dakota's 2005 informed consent legislation (HB1166). "We are pleased that the court got it right," stated Linda Schauer, State Director of CWA of South Dakota. "The court wisely recognized that Planned Parenthood's argument that the Act violates a physician's First Amendment right was supported only by speculation and opinions, not facts. "A woman seeking an abortion is often in a crisis situation or is under pressure from the child's father or her parents. She deserves to be fully informed with accurate and scientific information concerning a procedure that ends the life of her baby and is likely to have a detrimental effect on her for the rest of her life.

HIV resurges in men who have sex with men Cases climb 12 percent among group of U.S. boys and men ages 13 to 24 - A new analysis of HIV diagnoses among men who have sex with men points to a troubling increase in new cases among young men, U.S. health officials reported Thursday. Public health experts use the term "men who have sex with men," or MSM, because many of these men are not strictly homosexual or even bisexual. Between 2001 and 2006, male-to-male sex was the largest HIV transmission category in the U.S., and the only one associated with an increasing number of HIV/AIDS diagnoses, according to a report from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

...and you thought it was going to stop with homosexuals...

Trans-formers: Frank and Barney Host Cross-Dressers Last year, even those supporting "civil rights" for homosexuals were not willing to include protections for cross-dressers and people who have sex-change operations in the "Employment Non-Discrimination Act" (ENDA). Despite this aversion, a House Education and Labor subcommittee yesterday held the first-ever congressional hearing on "transgender" employment protections. FRC VP for Policy, Peter Sprigg was present as two openly homosexual Members of Congress, Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisc.) and Barney Frank (D-Mass.), were the lead hitters. Baldwin emphasized that "all of us are created equal -- though how we were created is exactly what transvestites and transsexuals are rebelling against. She admitted that a "gender identity non-discrimination law" has symbolic as well as practical purposes. One of the main reasons we oppose legislation like ENDA is because it would symbolically declare that anyone who believes a man should remain a man and a woman remain a woman is a bigot. Frank, meanwhile, insisted that the bill is "no license to misbehave or be bizarre," but he was apparently ignorant of the fact that for a man to wear a dress is inherently bizarre. He also praised "transgenders" for having "courageously dealt with" their "deep anguish." But there is nothing "courageous" about indulging these desires rather than resisting them. Glen Lavy of the Alliance Defense Fund brought a note of sanity, reminding the committee that employers have rights too, and should be left alone to exercise them in this area.

Indoctrination or Education? - (Education?) The good, the bad, and the ugly...
Without a Heritage every generation starts over
Will our descendants know moral virtue?

Without a heritage every generation starts over.

"The philosophy of the schoolhouse in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next." Abraham Lincoln

"Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom, and then lost it, have never known it again." Ronald Reagan

He Said, She Said the House Committee on Education and Labor held the first-ever hearing on "transgender discrimination". Last November, the House passed the Employment Non- Discrimination Act (ENDA) which would prohibit discrimination of employees based on "sexual orientation", but removed language from the bill that included "gender identity" protections. "This hearing appears to be a step toward passing legal restrictions against identifying men as men, and women as women," said Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America (CWA). ..."This would be a prescription for crazy lawsuits to make easy money or to excuse possibly criminal behavior by claiming discrimination. Businesses, government entities, non-profits and religious organizations would be caught between protecting their employees and customers and appeasing complainants who are confused - or confuse others - about their sex. Men who get caught in women's locker rooms with little girls present could claim that they 'perceive' themselves to be women."

American identity - Most eighth-graders who took the National Assessment of Educational Progress Civics Test in 2006 couldn’t explain the purpose of the Declaration of Independence. Which means those middle-schoolers didn’t understand why, as Americans, we celebrate Independence Day every July 4. The good news, though, includes a report from the Bradley Project on America’s National Identity that finds a longing among Americans for a stronger sense of national identity, history and purpose

Extra, Extra...

The Mystery of the Copper Scroll - In the years that followed, archaeologists found eleven caves and more than 900 documents here at Qumran. But one scroll was different from all the rest. Instead of leather or parchment, it was made entirely of copper, and it could be the greatest treasure map in history. The Copper Scroll describes a hidden cache of gold and silver buried in more than 60 locations throughout Israel. The monetary value is close to $3 billion, but the historical value - is priceless.

Christianity in Crisis, by Jonathon Falwell - “People are expressing more hostility, doubt, frustration and skepticism toward Christianity — and this is particularly true among young people.” That’s the informed conclusion of David Kinnaman in a story titled “Avoiding unChristian Preaching” on The Barna Group website (http://www.barna.org/FlexPage.aspx?Page=Perspective&PerspectiveID=30). ...And while I believe this perception of Christians is at least partially because of the constant negative portrayals of us in the mainstream media, I also believe that we — Christians — are largely to blame for the negative way in which we are seen. ...Mr. Kinnaman asks two important questions in his article: 'How does a messenger of God strike the right balance between grace and truth? How does a teacher of the Bible help point people toward a holy God, without creating the opposite effect of putting up false barriers to Him?' ...Consider a program titled 'A Course of Miracles,' which has received a lot of mainstream notoriety lately. In its description of sin, the course states, 'In most Christian religions, we were taught that we were born in sin (original sin) and that we are all sinners. We were also taught that Jesus saved us from the eternal fires of damnation by dying on the cross for our sins. In this crazy thought system, we made up a God that requires sacrifice of His Son to atone for our sins. When we really look at it with clarity, it would be quite a wild and crazy God that would have such a requirement to be appeased.' - Clarifying Our Message - As Christians, we must learn how to compassionately and shrewdly provide answers to these types of reckless assaults on the Gospel of Christ. That is why I have initiated the Innovate Church Christian Leaders Conference that is being hosted by Thomas Road Baptist Church, August 11-13 in Lynchburg, Va. I've invited some of our nation's leading church innovators and theologians to train pastors, Christian leaders and laymen how to become more confident and effective ambassadors of Jesus Christ. Special guests will include: Rick Warren, senior pastor of Saddleback Church; Chuck Colson, founder of Prison Fellowship; Jim Cymbala, pastor of the Brooklyn Tabernacle; Tom Mullins, senior pastor of Christ Fellowship in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; Ed Stetzer, church planter and director of Lifeway Research; Dr. Ergun Caner, president of Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary; Sheri Rose Shepherd, best-selling author and speaker; Mathew Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel and dean of the Liberty University School of Law; and many others. If you are looking for a conference focused on how to effectively preach Christ in the modern culture, I truly believe this is it. To register, or to learn more about this conference, please visit our website (www.innovatechurch.us ) or call us at (800) 424-9592.

New Reality Show May Show Teens what Parenthood is Really Like by Aimee Herd: Citizen Link, NBC.com "…perhaps getting a wake-up call to the reality of responsibility that is caring for another human being, will be a good thing for those young people who watch and participate." EDITOR'S NOTE: We do not make it a habit to endorse or condemn movies or television programs, except when the occasion is truly warranted. However, in light of NBC's new reality program which hit the airwaves this week, I wanted to share a few thoughts. –Aimee Herd, BCN.  Who wasn't shocked recently, when an alleged "pregnancy pact" was reported among 17 teens at Gloucester High School in Massachusetts. And sadly, while other "pacts" may not exist, the same alarming trend can be found in almost every high school across America. ...The reality TV show centers around five teen "couples" (girlfriend and boyfriend) who experience what real parenthood can be like when they "borrow" a child from participating families. Beginning with a pregnancy suit to simulate some of the things a woman deals with during her final trimester, a few of the girls were already in tears. After that, each couple was given an infant to care for, for three days—the babies' real parents monitoring via camera at all times. In this show debut it appeared that just the first twelve hours tasting true parenthood quickly took its toll.
