Upfront - A socialist by any other name . . . Selwyn Duke - As I said before, though, let's not lose sight of the fact that the politicians merely reflect the people. Too many Americans have been instilled with unrealistic expectations for lifestyle and a spirit of entitlement, and they will glom onto any slick demagogue (even if he has a strange foreign name) who promises a larger piece of the pie. As to this, in Fairchok's article he presents a chilling prediction made by U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate Norman Thomas more than half a century ago. To wit: "The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." While I can't say much for the man's politics, he was, at least insofar as this went, quite prescient. Most Americans have been inured to socialism under a different name, although virtually all would protest loudly if so accused.

Taking Back the Bathrooms After Maryland's Montgomery County made history with a gender-free bathroom rule, imitations have started cropping up in city councils across the country. It even became official Colorado policy, when Gov. Bill Ritter (D) signed a similar bill into law last month. The people of Gainesville, Florida are the latest to square off with transgender extremists over a bathroom ordinance that could jeopardize the safety of the entire city. A group of 30 pastors is banding together to respond and overturn the January 28 through a group called Citizens for Good Public Policy. According to Cane Davis, who is helping to lead the effort, there are just 12 known transgenders in Gainesville, yet they are setting the policy for a population of 120,000. For every cross-dresser who takes advantage of this law, there are hundreds of sexual predators who will see this as a chance to put women and children into a vulnerable situation. "We have 263 known sexual...offenders [in the city] who have a history of doing things against their victims--and many of those victims are female." To overturn the ordinance, Davis is trying to gather 6,000 valid signatures by the end of July on a petition that would put the issue on the ballot. If you live in Gainesville or know someone who does, please encourage them to print off a copy of the petition found on Davis's website at www.citizensforgoodpublicpolicy.org/petition.html and mail it in.

Contact the AFL-CIO today and show them that suppressing free speechis not what they bargained for! Please contact the national AFL-CIO to let it know such tactics are intolerable. Take action now and urge your Senator to vote to lift the federal restrictions on exploration in U.S. coastal waters. In the coming weeks, the Senate will be considering proposals to open 85 percent of the Outer Continental Shelf to energy exploration that is currently off limits.

Christian Defense Coalition Responds to Senator Obama's Speech on Faith and Values - Katilin Clare, Program Director for the Christian Defense Coalition, adds, "As a 23 year old emerging generation faith leader it is easy to see through Sen. Obama's attempt to reach the faith community. It seems completely illogical that one person can talk about faith and values while simultaneously supporting the brutal killing of children through abortion. Sen. Obama has no moral authority to speak about faith and social justice; it's like a hunter speaking at a PETA meeting."

Senator Barack Obama Wants You to Pay for Abortions The Christian Defense Coalition will have a news conference on Tuesday, July 8, at 11:00 A.M. to discuss this new campaign. They will also have large color posters and fliers. The location of the news conference will be in front of Mr. Obama's senate office in the Hart Senate Office building on the Constitution Ave. NE entrance side. A major part of the news conference will center on the fact that Senator Obama wants people of faith, Catholics and Evangelicals, to pay for abortions through their tax dollars.

Obama: America is 'no longer Christian' - Democrat says nation also for Muslims, nonbelievers - By Aaron Klein - Some have been taking issue with largely unnoticed comments made last year by Sen. Barack Obama declaring the U.S. is "no longer a Christian nation" but is also a nation of others, including Muslims and nonbelievers. The comments have been recently recirculating on Internet blogs. "Whatever we once were, we're no longer a Christian nation. At least not just. We are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, and a Buddhist nation, and a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers," Obama said during a June 2007 speech available on YouTube. At the speech, Obama also seemingly blasted the "Christian Right" for hijacking religion and using it to divide the nation: "Somehow, somewhere along the way, faith stopped being used to bring us together and started being used to drive us apart. It got hijacked. Part of it's because of the so-called leaders of the Christian Right, who've been all too eager to exploit what divides us," he said. Asked last year to clarify his remarks, Obama repeated them to the Christian Broadcast Network: "I think that the right might worry a bit more about the dangers of sectarianism. Whatever we once were, we're no longer just a Christian nation; we are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, a Buddhist nation, a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers," Obama wrote in an e-mail to CBN News senior national correspondent David Brody. "We should acknowledge this and realize that when we're formulating policies from the state house to the Senate floor to the White House, we've got to work to translate our reasoning into values that are accessible to every one of our citizens, not just members of our own faith community," wrote Obama.

Barack Obama Clarifies Faith Policies, Abortion and Rumors with RELEVANT Magazine - Strang pointedly asked the senator about abortion. Hoping to quell rumors that are circulating regarding his stance on third-trimester and partial-birth abortions, Obama openly discussed his controversial voting record, personal convictions against abortion and how he would seek to reduce the number of abortions during his administration. ,,,To read the full transcript of the interview with Senator Obama, visit www.RELEVANTmagazine.com/life_article.php? id=7591. The audio of the interview is running on the July 7, 2008, edition of the RELEVANT Podcast.

Faith-Based Feint? It's an axiom in politics that what a politician says in public is meant to please, but what he says in private is meant to pledge. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) is rhapsodizing in public on the nation's hunger for a leader who shares their homegrown priorities--a love of country, faith in God, and loyalty to family. To prove his sincerity on the issues, Obama says that if elected he'll overhaul President Bush's faith-based initiative and expand it. In a speech today in Zanesville, Ohio, he said that church and religious organizations should play a bigger role in meeting our country's social needs. He would even support the right of federally-funded programs "to hire and fire based on faith." Of course, this statement stands in stark contrast to his policy position on ENDA (the Employment Non-Discrimination Act), which would trample on the religious and moral convictions of employers, including non-profits and certain church ministries. Nevertheless, Obama's camp insists that their candidate will "elevate" the program to the "moral center" of his administration. It sounds appealing, but what exactly would a faith-based initiative under Obama look like? His latest statements on the California marriage amendment over the weekend provide a frightening glimpse. In a less-than-public letter to a Sunday breakfast of the LGBT Democratic Club in San Francisco, he scorned man-woman marriage, saying , "...I oppose the divisive and discriminatory efforts to amend the California Constitution [to protect marriage], and similar efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution or those of any other states." While telling the world he will up hold the faith-based initiative as the cornerstone of his administration, Obama says that a cornerstone of society - heterosexual marriage -- is "divisive and discriminatory." Doesn't this mean that faith-based organizations that support marriage will be disqualified from federal funding under an Obama presidency? It would be next to impossible for ministries that promote traditional marriage to participate in a Healthy Marriage project funded through an Obama faith-based initiative. There is no doubt that Sen. Obama is polished on the issue of faith, but it's his record--not his rhetoric--that speaks louder. Gaps like this leave Senator McCain with a huge opening: as with his letter last week supporting the marriage amendment in California, McCain can send message after message that his definition of faith is traditional and strong, not the High Church of Secular Liberalism that believes in a "faith-based" way to destroy marriage and family.

A Former Homosexual Confronts Barak Obama's Distorted Gay Theology The James Hartline Report - On The Frontlines Of The Culture War - A Former Homosexual Confronts The Distorted Gay Theology Of Democratic Presidential Candidate Barak Obama ~ By Christian Activist and Former Homosexual James Hartline ~ For thirty years I was trapped inside of the homosexual lifestyle. In 2000, after years of struggling, I was completely set free and I have never gone back to the sin of homosexuality. From being a captive to homosexuality to the full liberty that comes with the salvation granted me by Jesus Christ, I have indeed experienced the full parameters of the homosexual movement and the born-again Christian life.

Obama Would Bar Tax-Funded Charities from Hiring Only Fellow Believers - Barack Obama's proposed expansion of government support for religious charities would prohibit the use of federal funds to hire only fellow believers. At a Presbyterian ministry in Zanesville, Ohio, Obama said faith-based groups would be allowed to hire and fire based on religion only in their non-taxpayer-funded activities. And where there are laws barring discrimination based on sexual orientation, he said he would support those being applied to tax-funded religious charities. Jim Towey, a former head of President Bush's faith-based office, says that would make Obama's proposal "dead on arrival" for many evangelicals and small churches. He says "those folks want to hire people who share their vision and mission."

Only One Justice Away from Being French by A.W.R. Hawkins - The more news coverage of the Supreme Court's "historic" decision upholding the Second Amendment I saw the more depressed I became. Though I'm grateful for the way the decision fell, I could not help being appalled by the fact that only 5 out of 9 justices now believe that the Constitution is constitutional. In short, the United States is only one liberal Supreme Court justice away from being judicially transformed into France.

Future Obama Court Choices: Don’t Let Constitution Stand in the Way of Liberals - Gregory D. Lee - The recent Supreme Court decision of Boumediene v. Bush concerning the habeas corpus rights of enemy combatants held at Guantanamo Naval Base illustrates the need for a president who will nominate jurists that follow the Constitution and not their own political ideology. For the first time, the Court has now extended U.S. constitutional rights to foreign nationals residing outside the country. What's all the more galling is that the recipients of this right were engaged in killing U.S. and coalition forces in Afghanistan and elsewhere. Now, this same court has agreed to hear the petition of a deported Pakistani national who wants to sue former Attorney General John Ashcroft and FBI Director Robert Mueller. He claims they subjected him to harsh treatment during several years of detention, and discriminated against him because of his nationality and religion. Have the liberal members of the Court secretly converted to Islam, or do they just hate President Bush like all other left-wing ideologues? Habeas corpus means: "Produce the body." A writ of habeas corpus is a court directive for an agency detaining a prisoner to bring him to the court to determine the lawfulness of the imprisonment.

High-Stakes Courts By Thomas Sowell - The point here is that federal judges, including Supreme Court justices, wield enormous-- and growing-- power. What that means is that when we vote for the candidates who will nominate and confirm judges, we are making decisions not only for ourselves but for generations yet unborn. ...Even more important than the particular issues that courts will decide is the more fundamental issue of what a judge's role is in our system of Constitutional government. In the gun control decision, for example, there were justices who read the history and meaning of the Second Amendment differently. What was most dangerous, however, was Justice Stephen Breyer's opinion that it was up to judges to weigh and "balance" the pros and cons of gun control laws. If we have Constitutional rights only when judges like the end results, we may as well not have a Constitution.

INDEPENDENCE DAY 2008 A Necessary Observance - Our system of government today is not so different from the monarchy we escaped, except that a swarm of bureaucrats have taken up the throne. A necessity thus presents itself to us as well: We must reconnect with the timeless principles that inspired our Founding Fathers; those same principles that long ago gave birth to a good, great and God-blessed nation. “[W]hat do we mean by the American Revolution?” reflected John Adams. “Do we mean the American war? The Revolution was effected before the war commenced. The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people; a change in their religious sentiments, of their duties and obligations... This radical change in the principles, opinions, sentiments, and affections of the people was the real American Revolution.”

Obama site urges: 'Revolution' against U.S. 'oppressive' regime Marxists, socialists, communists form group to plot on official campaign blog - Marxists, socialists and communists have created a safe space online to congregate, exchange ideas – including a stated revolution against the U.S. "oppressive" regime – and support their favored presidential candidate. Their meeting spot? Sen. Barack Obama's official campaign website, which allows registered users to form groups and post content in online "community" blogs. One popular community group on the Illinois senator's official MyObama website calls itself "Marxists/Socialists/Communists for Obama."

Muslims outraged at police advert featuring cute puppy sitting in policeman's hat - A postcard featuring a cute puppy sitting in a policeman's hat advertising a Scottish police force's new telephone number has sparked outrage from Muslims. Tayside Police's new non-emergency phone number has prompted complaints from members of the Islamic community.

Social Justice for Kids: A Fourth of July Special Message  by Linda Harvey - We hear a lot today about “social justice,” especially in churches, but oddly, it always sounds a lot more like the Democratic Party platform than anything resembling biblical truth. What about our kids? What would a “just” America look like for them? And....how many of these would Obama support? Hmm...

Massachusetts Governor degrades self and insults state, marching in depraved homosexual parade. Very disturbed people playing out serious issues. This is the "gay" movement in Massachusetts. It was the "Gay Pride Parade" in downtown Boston. If you had stood across the street from the Massachusetts State House on June 14, 2008 this is what you would have seen coming down the street. Normal people would not do what you're about to see. But this is the essence of the homosexual movement. These people have serious psychological issues. Scroll down and you'll see our governor in the midst of all this. He degraded himself and insulted all of us by participating in this disturbing event. ,,,Our governor (and his family!) marched in a public "parade" that included contingents of sado-masochists, male dancers on floats simulating homosexual sex acts, transvestites and cross-dressers, and general sick behavior. (More photos and video also to be posted.)

Were America's Founders Deists? By Brannon Howse - Joseph Story served on the U.S. Supreme Court from 1811 to 1845, and in his commentaries on the Constitution of the United States, he wrote: Now, there will probably be found few persons in this, or any other Christian country, who would deliberately contend, that it was unreasonable, or unjust to foster and encourage the Christian religion generally, as a matter of sound policy, as well as of revealed truth. In fact, every American colony, from its foundation down to the revolution, with the exception of Rhode Island, (If, indeed that state be an exception,) did openly, by the whole course of its laws and institutions, support and sustain, in some form, the Christian religion; and almost invariably gave a peculiar sanction to some of its fundamental doctrines. And this has continued to be the case in some of the states down to the present period, without the slightest suspicion, that it was against the principles of public law, or republican liberty. The reason Story mentions that some think Rhode Island should be an exception is that, in considering the place of the Ten Commandments in their system of law, “Rhode Island adopted the last six of the Commandments, but not the first four.” The strategy of secular humanists is simple: If you say something often enough, people tend to believe it. So, in various forms, they repeat the myth that America’s Founders held to a secular, deistic worldview.

Lawmaker's comments labeled 'outrageous' A Massachusetts trial lawyer, also serving as chairman of the State House Ethics Committee, is under fire for advocating "ripping apart" child sexual abuse victims on the witness stand.

Perspective: Children in the 'gay marriage' crosshairs You've probably heard the argument: "Gay marriage won't hurt anyone. Live and let live, already!" Don't buy it for a minute.

Time to shut down homosexual clubs - By Linda Harvey - When are public health officials going to intervene and shut down homosexual clubs and other pro-homosexual programs in our schools? Last week, the Centers for Disease Control released a report on HIV/AIDS diagnoses between 2001 and 2006. The data revealed that HIV diagnoses rose over 12 percent annually among MSM – that's males having sex with males – in the 13 to 24 age group. Among all MSM, HIV/AIDS diagnoses are up over 8 percent during that time period (an estimated 1.5 percent annually). Did you get that? Each year, 12 percent more boys and young men were diagnosed with HIV. The trend is straight uphill. Yet homosexual activist groups like GLSEN and PFLAG, in lockstep with the ACLU and even Planned Parenthood, convince educators that safe-sex condom demonstrations, "gay straight alliances," and tolerance and diversity lessons are necessary "support" for those who are presumably born to engage in this behavior. Our beautifully designed 14-year-old boys were created to have anal sex? Right.

Go ahead: Arrest me Janet Folger - Censorship. Book burning. The Criminalization of Christianity. It's here and it's now the law in the state of Colorado - The Ku Klux Klan can march. The Nazis can hand out brochures. Skinheads can do whatever it is that Skinheads do. But in the state of Colorado, the only group who is NOT allowed to be heard is … the Christians. They're the ones who disagree with same-sex marriage, cohabitation, and believe the biblical view that homosexuality is a sin. But if they voice that objection from now on, it had better be inside the four walls of a church. If not, they'll be staring at the four walls of a prison cell … for up to a year. No kidding.

Experts Are Jumping off Global Warming ‘Train’- An award-winning meteorologist has written an article debunking fears of man-made global warming — and predicting that global cooling could be a more likely problem. James Spann, chief meteorologist at station ABC 33/40 in Birmingham, Ala., first attracted worldwide publicity back in January 2007 when he disputed the assertion that global warming was caused by human activity, instead insisting it is part of the earth’s regular climate cycle. Now he has posted an article on his station’s Weather Blog, headlined “Global Warming Movement Turns Cool,” which reads in part: “Two years ago, it seemed like nothing could stop the global warming train. Most of the media, those in Hollywood, politicians (many on both sides of the cultural divide), and ‘enlightened environmentalists’ were all telling us that man was causing runaway warming of the earth’s atmosphere, meaning global catastrophe only decades ahead for all of us. Scary stuff. “The problem is that a majority of those in this almost religious movement have little training in atmospheric science, and little understanding of the issue. They jumped on the bandwagon because it matches their worldview, or pads their pocket.”

Perspective: The Girl Scouts' new radicalism After making the word "God" optional in their oath in 1995, it shouldn't be a great surprise that now Girl Scouts are supposed to look within, discover a blank canvas, and find their own values.

House Committee Holds She-Male Hearing: Why? By Rev. Louis P. Sheldon Chairman, Traditional Values Coalition - July 1, 2008 – Unreported in most of the media last week was the first congressional hearing ever held on alleged "transgender discrimination" in the workplace. This hearing was to offset the overwhelming opposition that arose last year from fellow democrats who forced the removal from the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) of language for special rights for she-males, drag queens, cross dressers, and those having sex changes with operations or hormones. This hearing was a charade attempting to show how normal these lifestyles are. ...During the nearly three hour hearing, there was much discussion about “gender identity,” but no one dared mention the term “Gender Identity Disorder,” which is how the American Psychiatric Association (APA) describes individuals who reject their birth sex and think they should have so-called sex change operations. (see the APA’s listing for 30 sexual orientations). There was also no discussion of the implications of hiring drag queens, cross-dressers, and she-males in the workplace. The panel featured two men who were dressed as women and two women who were dressed as men. ...The issue of use of bathrooms brought an answer from Minter stating they have had no trouble with the rule that use of the bathroom is whatever the sex to which the person has changed. Under this rule, the issue of locker rooms, such as swim locker rooms where women and girls would share with she-males and completely redress after swimming, would totally invade privacy rights and was not brought up by any Member of Congress.

'The Gay Goodfellas' Working under virtual anonymity, the pro-homosexual empire of activist Tim Gill is growing at a frightening pace in both influence and capital. The Gill Action Fund, which helped to knock off several pro-family candidates in 2006, is back with a stocked war chest and its sights set on a gay and lesbian takeover of the 5,000 state seats that may be "up for grabs" this November. Gill's success is the subject of a lengthy piece in The Advocate, a radical homosexual publication. "The Gay Mafia," as the cover calls them, were largely responsible for 10 state chambers switching hands from conservative to liberal in 2006, and the Fund is thirsty for more. One by one, the PAC is targeting local races, where pro-homosexual candidates can slowly chip away at the opposition to same-sex "marriage" and special rights for homosexuals.

Good News - Life Advocates Take a Stand at NEA Convention - 'They advocate abortion on demand, all nine months of pregnancy.'...Kristan Hawkins, executive director of Students for Life of America, said the NEA's stance became obvious when it opened its headquarters recently for a Feminist Majority Foundation meeting. “They are an organization that advocates abortion on demand, all nine months of pregnancy — pretty scary," she said.
