Pope Encourages 100 New Bishops to Use the "Weapon of Preaching" Against Secularization (LifeSiteNews) - Pope Benedict XVI met with 100 newly appointed bishops today, giving them the example of St. Paul as a model for their preaching and pastoral work. The Pope noted how the locales where the bishops are stationed "are being hit by the increasingly-violent wind of ... religious indifference, secularisation and the relativisation of values." This, he said, "creates an environment in which the weapon of preaching may appear - as happened to Paul in Athens - to lack the necessary strength." The Pope encouraged the bishops nonetheless to preach the truth, even in the face of physical persecution, after the example of St. Paul, who suffered numerous persecutions and was finally martyred.

Family Policy Network (FPN) is calling for a nation-wide boycott against America’s largest greeting card company for aligning itself with liberal activists who want to redefine morality and the institution of marriage. FPN announced the boycott against Hallmark Cards, Inc. after the company introduced new greeting cards aimed at “congratulating” homosexuals who enter into so-called “gay marriage” contracts and “civil unions.”
According to an 8/21/08 news story from the Associated Press, Hallmark spokeswoman Sarah Kolell said the company introduced the pro-homosexual cards in an attempt to be “relevant” to as many consumers as possible.
Yet the Bible states in Isaiah 5:20:
“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” (NKJV)
It is likewise clear that God is the Author of marriage, and His design is expressed very clearly in the New Testament by Jesus Christ, who declared in Mark 10:6-8:
“But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh.” (NKJV)

Rewriting History – Lies that hurt us all Congressman Frank blames capitalism for the mess he and his cohorts have wrought: Consider the facts.
Under rules implemented by the Clinton Administration in 1995, banks and mortgage companies were required to give loans to people who could not afford them. This scheme was welfare pure and simple—hand over money to people everyone knew would not be able to pay it back. The banks and mortgage companies did as required. Otherwise they would face stiff penalties and possibly lose their license to operate. So, they gave out the money to put people in homes they could not afford.
But the banks had to get the money from somewhere. They got it from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the two failed quasi-government organizations. Fannie and Freddie urged, encouraged and bullied banks to give out more and more high-risk loans. They then bought these bogus mortgages and sold them to investors, again with the implied backing of the U.S. Government.
So, why wouldn’t an investment firm not buy these securities? After all, they were marketed as having the backing of the U.S. taxpayers.
The Wall Street Journal detailed Barney Frank’s sorted history of defending the scammers:
• In 2000, then-Rep. Richard Baker proposed a bill to reform Fannie and Freddie's oversight. Mr. Frank dismissed the idea, saying concerns about the two were "overblown" and that there was "no federal liability there whatsoever."
• Two years later, Mr. Frank was at it again. "I do not regard Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as problems," he said in response to another reform push. And then: "I regard them as great assets."
• Again in June 2003, the favorite of the Beltway press corps assured the public that "there is no federal guarantee" of Fan and Fred obligations.
• A month later, Freddie Mac's multibillion-dollar accounting scandal broke into the open. But Mr. Frank was sanguine. "I do not think we are facing any kind of a crisis," he said at the time.
Three months later he repeated the claim that Fannie and Freddie posed no "threat to the Treasury." Even suggesting that heresy, he added, could become "a self-fulfilling prophecy."
• In April 2004, Fannie announced a multibillion-dollar financial "misstatement" of its own. Mr. Frank was back for the defense. Fannie and Freddie posed no risk to taxpayers, he said, adding that "I think Wall Street will get over it" if the two collapsed.
Democrats caused current financial crisis By Sher Zieve - Franklin Raines who ran Fannie Mae and ended up with over $6M his first year — raided both corporations which had become their personal slush funds. From his days of running Fannie Mae, Franklin Raines is reported to have accumulated a personal net worth of over $100M. Another Clintonian buddy — Jamie Gorelick (remember her from the CIA/FBI fiasco?) — is also said to be personally worth in excess of $100M. It appears that some in government service CAN achieve wealth beyond the wildest dreams of most of us! They just have to sell their souls to the highest bidder and be willing to betray their fellow Americans. This fortune was accumulated during her years (1997-2003) as Vice Chairman of Fannie Mae. The fraudulent accounting scheme which apparently allowed for Democrats Raines, Gorelick and other Clinton supporters to achieve vast fortunes in a very short period of time was brought to light in 2004.
As mortgage firms and investment banks heavily leveraged by ARM mortgages started to be adversely affected by the number of foreclosures, the current financial crisis began in earnest.
Democrats Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) also the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee — of all things — and Democrat presidential Candidate Barack Obama (who is reported to be the 3rd largest recipient of Fannie Mae political contributions — said to be over $100K in less than 4 years) have also benefited greatly from these Democrats' personal slush funds. However, in the worst cut to We the People from the knife of corruption, the very people who created this problem will now be in charge of "correcting" it! Does this make any sense to anyone except those who have received and continue to receive funds from these institutions?
Across Mass., wait to see doctors grows Access to care, insurance law cited for delays By Liz Kowalczyk, Globe Staff | September 22, 2008 The wait to see primary care doctors in Massachusetts has grown to as long as 100 days, while the number of practices accepting new patients has dipped in the past four years, with care the scarcest in some rural areas. Now, as the state's health insurance mandate threatens to make a chronic doctor shortage worse, the Legislature has approved an unprecedented set of financial incentives for young physicians, and other programs to attract primary care doctors. But healthcare leaders fear the new measures will take several years to ease the shortage.
HOUSE PASSES D.C. GUN BILL; SENATORS SEEK FLOOR TIME . . . The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a bill aimed at restoring Second Amendment rights in the District of Columbia. The bill passed easily, 266-152. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) along with 46 other senators have asked for Senate floor time for the bill, reports CQ Politics. The group has asked that the bill be called up before the end of the 110th Congress. California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, however, has vowed to filibuster it in the Senate. The bill, among other things, would prevent the District from banning pistols and rifles and would allow D.C. residents to buy a gun in Maryland and Virginia. Read the full text of the bill.
Kentucky Court Upholds Constitution, Rejects Illegal "Gay" Adoption (www.LC.org) - Louisville, KY - The Kentucky Court of Appeals has strongly rebuked an activist lower family court for allowing a lesbian woman to illegally adopt her female companion's child, in clear violation of both Kentucky law and the Kentucky state constitution. The higher court reaffirmed that in Kentucky, stepparent adoptions are only legal when the stepparent is married to a biological parent. The court also reaffirmed that marriage can only exist between one man and one woman. "It's not this or any court's role to judge whether the legislature's prohibition of same-sex marriage … is morally defensible or socially enlightened," wrote Judge Glenn Acree in the opinion. "Nor is it this or any court's role … to craft any means by which the legal consequences of such a prohibition may be negated or avoided."
Adult Stem Cells All the Rage The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports a huge shift in the stem cell world. Wisconsin has been a ground zero of sorts for embryonic stem cell research. In 1998, James Thomson was the first scientist to isolate an embryonic stem cell. He subsequently founded two stem cell research companies. The big news is that these companies are merging... but the BIGGER news is that they are shifting their focus from embryonic stem cell research to research involving non-embryonic sources, e.g. adult stem cells, cord blood stem cells, induced pluripotent stem cells, etc. What incredible news! And it comes in the same few days that the McCain/Palin campaign released a new radio ad regarding stem cells. Listen to it below and note there is no mention of embryonic stem cells. Stem cell research is great as long as it doesn't kill human embryos!
Religious Leftists Host Dinner for Ahmadinejad - In town to address the United Nations General Assembly, presumably to defend Iran's developing nuclear program, Ahmadinejad will sit down with the Mennonite Central Committee, Quaker United Nations Office, Religions for Peace, the American Friends Service Committee, the Episcopal Church and the World Council of Churches-United Nations Liaison Office who are hosting the event. UMass chaplain fails in effort to boost Barack Obama’s chances By Associated Press - University of Massachusetts officials yesterday quashed efforts by an Amherst campus chaplain to offer two college credits to any student willing to campaign in New Hampshire this fall for Democrat Barack Obama.
Co-ed dorms for gender-confused males? - The University of Pittsburgh is changing its anti-discrimination policy to include gender identity. The new policy means that a man who feels like he is a woman can be housed in the women's dormitory and vice versa. And that involves "showering and using the restroom and the whole shebang," explains Diane Gramley, president of American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA).
Rewriting American history - The Bradley Project on America's National Identity recently issued its report, called "E Pluribus Unum" ("from many, one"). It calls attention to a decline in civic and historical literacy and a system of education that emphasizes ethnic identities over shared citizenship. In other words, it suggests that we are not doing a good job of teaching students the fundamentals of American history, but we are succeeding in teaching them to be hyper-aware of the divisions among us rather than all that unites us. So two things are happening here. We are producing students with the scantest of knowledge of American history, and planting in them a distorted vision of it.

The ANWR Debate - To Drill or Not to Drill By Dale Hurd CBNNews.com - America is rich in oil. A potentially huge field in Alaska has been off limits for decades. But a majority of Americans say it's time to go for it.
The Last 'Pristine' Frontier
To drill, or not to drill - that's the question for Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, or ANWR.
Alaska's Governor Sarah Palin says drill, even though her running mate, John McCain, has said he opposes drilling.
One estimate says that there could be as much as 16 billion barrels of oil in ANWR; that's the same as 30 years of imports from Saudi Arabia.
But the drilling would take place in what environmentalists call one of the last pristine wilderness areas on Earth, the 1.5 million acre coastal plain on the north slope of Alaska, home to seabirds, caribou and polar bears. But Palin and others in favor of drilling say the public has been misled by environmentalists and the media as to what ANWR is really like.
Television footage often supplied to news agencies by environmentalists shows the beautiful Brooks Range. But that's not where the drilling would take place.
The actual location of the oil, on the coastal plain, has been compared by one critic to "Mars." And if you turn your camera in the right direction, it does indeed look like Mars.
Dan Gainor, who heads the conservative Business and Media Institute, said, "The media loves this word 'pristine.' They say 'it's a pristine wilderness.' That means it's empty. I've seen pictures of Siberia that look more inviting. It's a wasteland."
"Palin's been quoted as saying there are no mountains up there, and that is one of the keys. If you look at the pictures you see these beautiful majestic mountains. But they're not in the place that they're talking about drilling," Gainor said.
Palin-bashing arrives on campus A college student in Denver is creating a stir after notifying the media that her English professor gave her classmates an anti-Sarah Palin writing assignment.

He Said, She Said - When Charlotte Preece met David Schroer for an interview in 2005, he seemed like the perfect candidate for a job with the Congressional Research Service (CRS). As a retired colonel and Special Forces commander, he'd been involved in combat missions and as a counterterrorism advisor to the Pentagon's elite. Impressed by his credentials, Preece made a job offer that Schroer accepted. Just a few weeks before his first day, Schroer admitted over lunch with Preece that he had been living as a cross-dresser and planned to start his job as a woman named Diane. The news shocked Preece, who felt he applied under false pretenses. The next day she called David and said she couldn't hire him. Angry, Schroer sued the Library of Congress, which oversees CRS, for violating the Civil Rights Act.
After three years of legal debate, U.S. District Judge James Robinson sided with Schroer, ruling Friday that he was a victim of "sex discrimination." To justify his judicial activism, Judge Robinson equated Schroer's sex change to that of a religious conversion--a poor analogy since religion is a matter of choice whereas one's sex is an inborn reality. Furthermore, how could this be sex discrimination if transsexuals aren't a protected class under the Civil Rights Act?
Unfortunately, the far Left won't need the courts to push their agenda if Congress passes ENDA (the Employment Non-Discrimination Act). It would mandate that employers check their personal beliefs at the door and hire homosexuals, whether or not they're best suited for the job. Although the current version of ENDA doesn't grant these special workplace rights to transsexuals, there's strong belief that any future version would be all-inclusive.
